UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY CLAY BASCOM, OF LANSINGBURG, AND FRANCIS Rl'lCl-IIE, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,191, dated October 7, 1890.
Application illed September 8,1890. Serial No. 364,352. Term of patent 356 yan1-s.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, HENRY CLAY BAscon and FRANCIS RITCHIE, citizens of the United States, residing, the said BASCOM at the village of Lansingbarg, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, and the said RITCHIE at the city of Troy, in said State and county, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Heating-Stoves,of which the fol lowing isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof and consisting of a single figure, affording a view in perspective of enr newlydesigned stove.
The leading feature of our design consists 1n the ornamentation of the various parts.
Rising from the plain base A is the tire-box A', separated from the superimposed combust1onchamberA2 by the plain horizontally-pro gecting flange A3.
The combustion-chamber is provided with a corner-column AB, composed of a series of short parallel diagonal ribs, and on its front side with a door A, and on its upper end with a plain horizontallyproj eating dan ge A, surmounted by a dome A5.
The upper ends of the legs A6 are each provided on their outer surface with a central acanthus-leai' ornament B, and on opposite sides of such ornament with a series of ribs B', the individual ribs extending downwardly and outwardly from the leaf ornament to the edge of the leg, the ribs in each series gradually diminishing in length from the top of the leg downward.
The middle portion of each leg is provided with a foliated ornament B and the lower end with a series of horizontal ribs B8.
The front side of the lire-box is provided with a door BV and ornamented by a series of corner-columns B5, each column being compoed of a vertical row of short horizontal r1 s.
The lower part of the door is provided with a series of vertically-clon gated draf t-openin gs B, alternating with foliated ornaments, and a lower border beneath the openings composed of a series of horizontal ribs B7, one above the other.
The upper part of the door is provided with a central anthemion ornament Es and a lower wave-line B9,extendiglengthwise ofthe door, having scroll terminalsand scroll branches extending upward on opposite sides of the central ornament, and honeysuckle ornaments B10 at the ends of the door.
One end of the stove is provided with a door C, the upper portion of which is located on the lower portion of the combustion-charm ber and the lower part of the door upon the upper part of the fire-box.
The vertical and upper edges of the door are provided with a beaded border C and the bodysi1rface of the door with central foliated ornaments C2 and corner-scrolls CB.
Beneath the door O is the plain horizontallyprojecting shelf C4.
What we claim as new isl. The ornamental design for a heatingstove, herein shown and described, consisting of a plain base, a fire-box rising from the base, having cornerrcolumns severally composed of a series of short horizontal ribs and on its front side a door having draft-openings and foliated ornaments, a combustion-chamber above the fire-box, having a corner-column composed of a series ot' short parallel diagonal ribs, a door on the front side and a plain horizontallyprojecting top flange, a plain horizontally-projecting flange between the firebox and combustion-chamber, a door on one end of the stove overlapping the fire-box and combustion-chamber, having foliated ornaments thereon, and a plain horizontally-projecting shelf on the end of the stove directly beneath the end door.
2. In a design for a. heating-stove, the ornanientai design on a stove-door, herein shown and described, consisting of a horizontal row ofv verticallyelongated draft-openings alternoting with foliated ornaments on the lower part, with a lower edge border beneath the openings, composed of a series of horizontal ribs, one above the other, and on the upper part of the door a central anthemion ornament, and a wave-line extending lengthwise of the door beneath the central ornament, having scroll terminals and scroll branches OYQL extending upward on opposite sides of the Central ornement', with :i lioneysuekle ornament at each end of the door.
3. In a design for in heating-Stove, the ornamental design on lthe legs, herein shown and described, consisting of :in aeanthuS-leaf ornament; centrally located on the ontersurfaee of Jche upper end of the leg, a series of ribs on both sides of such ornament, the individual ribs extending downwardly and outwardly from the leaf ornement to the edge of the leg, the ribs in each series gradually diminishing in length from the top of the leg downward, n foliated ornament on the middle part; of the leg, and on the lower end of the leg n series 15 of short; horizontal ribs.
