UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM W. YVEHRLE, OF NEWARK, OI'IIO.
DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,394, dated September 20, 1898.
Application iled August 27, 1898. Serial No. 689,707. Term of patent 7 years.
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM W. WEIIRLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cooking Stoves or Ranges, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
In the drawing is shown a perspective elevation of a cooking stove or range which embodies my design as a whole.
Considering the features of the design severally, A represents the skirting about the bottom of the stove, which is relieved by a beaded and figured ornamentation c, blended in with the ornamentation on the legs c', and having a plain center d2 on its sides and a like but reduced plain surface ai centrally at its ends.
B is the oven-door, which has a medallion b at its center and a special design of figurework about it resembling somewhat a cloverleaf in outline, and at or near the corners of the door are plain raised surfaces b, which are surrounded by ornamentation which blends with the figure-work centrally of the d-oor and makes a complete design in itself. The space between the skirting A and the door B is further relieved by an ornamental shelf-like projection O, which in the stove itself is designed to be highly finished.
D represents the ornamentation on the end of the water-back, which is characterized by the central raised plain surface d, circular in outline and having scrollwork about it,which is gathered up at one point and a trail of it thrown across the said plain surface d.
E is the stove-door, which enters the firepot and is decorated in harmony with the oven-door, having clover-leaf center e and scallops e about the same, especially on one side.
F represents the front door, which has an overhanging highly-finished and ornamented top portion f and a comparatively plain lower portion, which is relieved by a series of vertical openings f2.
G is the support for the warming-oven.
This part of the design is especially prominent both in outline and ornamentation, havin g its surface elaborately covered with scrollwork g, wrought out in a harmonious combination and relieved bythe two points or projections g' at either side or edge, which are each surmounted by a disk-shaped member g2. The support G is narrowest just opposite the said projections g and widest beneath the same and widens gradually toward its top.
His the warming-oven, having both its front doors relieved with heavy scrolls 7L, lying,` lengthwise thereof, and about the top of the said oven is a heavy ornamental iiaring border 7L'. vThe complete effect of the design as a whole is one of massiveness and richness and withal attractive to the eye.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
