Description

UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICEQ GEORGE E. WILBUR, OF TAYUNTON, MASS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, WILLIAM E. WALKER, AND CHARLES F. BAKER, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No, 13,928, dated May 22, 1883.
Application filed November27, 1882. Term of patent 14 years,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. WILBUR, of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States,
5 have made a certain new and useful Design for a Cooking-Stove, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying cut, forming a part of this specification, in explaining its nature.
The designrelates especially to the oven, fire-pot and ashpit doors, the cabinet-base, and the side plate of the hot-water tank.
It will be seen that while the various features of the design vary from each other in shape, yet there is a uniformity about them which gives a very pleasing efiect to the stove as a whole.
Taking the features in the order named, I will first describe that of the oven-door. It consists in the raised portion a, rounded as shown, and inclosing a panel in which may be secured the name-plate a, and which is itself inclosed by the plain border a. The corners and sides of the portion a are rounded, and the upper and lower parts are substantially parallel. It is a modification of an oval figure, and it is inclosed by a border which 'is rectangular upon its outer edge, and is of the same shape as the portion a, which it incloses upon the inner edge. The corners a of the rectangular border may have the relief projections 00, which project from panels or recesses therein, and which are parallel upon their outer edges with the edges of the rectangular border a, and are curved upon their inner edges to conform to the oval ornamental portion a.
Thefire-pot and ash-pit doors and the side plate of the hot-water tank have borders of similar shapethat is, rectangular upon the outer edge and oval upon the. inner and ornamental corner-pieces, as that described; but
. the borders of the fire-potand ash-pit doors inclose a rounded section or ornamental portion, a, which makes the center-piece of each door, and which are oval in shape and are plain in finish.
The border of the side plate of the hot-water tank incloses an ornamental portion, a to which a'plate, a, may be vsecured, and which 0 has, if desired, certain recesses, a", upon its face. The portion a, instead of being in the form ofa plate, may be cast upon the plate a and form a part thereof.
The cabinet-base has the long central bor- 5 der, 1), which incloses a panel in which is the rounded ornamental portion 1), having edges substantially parallel with the inner edge of the border, and inclosing a panel in which a name-plate may be fastened; and upon either side of this central ornamentation is a panel, b inclosed by a border, I), and in which is the raised border b curved, as represented, and inclosing a panel, N, from which projects the rounded raised portion b.
Below the central ornamental border of the cabinet-baseisadownwa rdly-extendiugcurved border, bflwhich incloses the circular panel I), in which is a rounded ornamental piece, If,
and between said border I)" and the border b;
are two panels, b almost triangular in shape and containing ornamental relief-pieces b. The corners I) of the cabinet-base are plain and surrounded by the border b ,which, upon the front of the stove, is also a'portion of the border I).
The legs of the stove each have a border, 0, inclosing the plain rounded central panel, 0.
The name-plate a upon the oven-door, preferably, is shaped upon its edge to very nearly correspond to the inner edge of the panel to which it is fastened, and it has a raised portion or border, d, upon the edge, which is'very nearly rectangular in shape, oval border, d ,which d on which the name of the stove is cast in raised letters. from theouter border at the top and bottom, and is separated therefrom at the sides by the panels (1 as represented.
The chief characteristic or prevailing idea and which incloses a true k in turn inclosesthe panel 8 of this design is an oval figure or ornamental portion, rounded and plain, projecting out wardly from a panel or sunken portion, rounded upon its vertical edges, and panel are inclosed by a rectangular outer edge,
aborder which has and an inner edge that is of corresponding shape to the plain The inner oval border starts.
which orname'tal part 5 g ornamental portion which it incloses, and this border, preferably, has a corner and reliefpieces above referred to.
The design carried throughout the stove, as described, gives it a very neat and pleasing appearance.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentot' the United States 1. The design for stove-doors, stove-plates, and panels, consisting, substantially, of a border rectangular upon its outer edge and curved upon its inner edge, as represented, inclosing a panel from which is raised the plain rounded ornamental portions which correspond on its outer edge with the inner edge of the border, all substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The design for an oven-door, consisting of the border a, the ornamental section a, inclosed thereby, and panel for the reception of the name-plate, all substantially as and for the purposes described. 3. The design fora stove-door, consisting of the border a, rectangular upon its outer edge, curved upon its inner edge, as represented, and surrounding a panel from which projects the rounded ornamental section a and the corner-relief panels and projecting pieces a all substantially as described.
4. The design for a cabinet-base, consisting of the border I), inclosing a panel upon which is formed the rounded oruamentatportion b, and the border on either side thereof, inclosing the panel I), upon which is the border I), inclosing the ornamental piece I), and the central ornamental portion below the central panel, as shown, all as described.
5. The design for a cooking-stove, shown and described.
