DESIGN FOR A RANGE OR COOKING-STOVE.

Beit known that l, GEORGE E. Winnen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Ranges or Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.

The leading or material features of my design reside in the general outline and shape of the range and in its special ornamentation. The outline is best represented by the drawing and is largely a matter of proportion of parts and their general lines. The ornamentation comprises the effects produced upon the surfaces thus obtained and which emphasize such features. One of the principal effects obtained is that of rich plainness, produced by the unornamented central sections of the two main panels or doors and by the heavy plain edges to the two shelves and the relatively plain but heavy ornamental eects about these plain sections, which tend to emphasize the plain sections rather than to detract from them. There may be said to be five principal effects obtained. One is by means of the borders-the border a to the top of the range, the border a' to the hearth, and the border c2 to the shelf. The others are produced by the doors b, c, d, and e. The

door l) is the oven-door. It has the plain central section D', upon which is mounted the name-plate b2. This name-plate is shaped and ornamented as represented in the drawing. The corners of the oven-door are ornamcnted with rich leaf effects or scrolls, which extend f rom each corner in branches horizontally along the top and bottom edges and vertically along the sides, and they are combined with a slight molding-and-bead eil'ect. The door c has at each corner a conventional leaf scroll, the upper of which extends downward and the lower upward, and the scrolls are connected at the top and at the bottom by a connecting figure in the nature of a leaf. The door d and its supports d' are likewise ornamented with heavy leaf-scroll effects, as represented in the drawing, and the same is true of the door e.

The entire ornamentation of all the doors is of the same general character, although the designs are not entirely alike, but are modified to give a pleasing variety.
