stantially alike.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. VVILBUR, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE WEIR STOVE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,800, dated June 2, 1891.
Application filed March 9, 1891. Serial No. 384,392. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. \VILBUR, of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States, have invented a new and useful Improved Design for Cooking Stoves and Ranges, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof the specification in explaining its nature.
The design relates to the various features in the ornamentation of a stove and range and embracing the design for the main ovendoor, the design for the ash-pit door, the design for a reservoir-plate, the design for the name-plate, the design for the cabinet-base, and the design for the oven-shelf. All these parts are upon the front of the stove and contribute to the ornamentation of the stove as a whole. 7
The design for the oven-door has for its chief or essential elements the figures a, radiating from acentral ring a and extending diagonally therefrom to the corners, there being four of these figures. The figures are in the nature of a conventional leaf-that is, there is a central stem and offshoots from each side of it. Three of the leaves are sub- The fourth is somewhat curved. The remainder of the design is made up on ribs radiating from the ring and represented as in part covered by the leaves. The handle of the door is in the form of a combined shell I) and scroll c, the shell being arched and ribbed and the scroll being flat.
The design for the ash-pit door comprises a central scroll d of an oval form, ending in four conventional leaves 01, extending from the oval to the corners 'of the door and mounted upon the radiating ribs, which appear to extend from the scroll to the edge of the door.
The design for the reservoir-plate is similar to the design for the oven-door in that there is a circular central ring e, from which radiate the conventional leaves f, which appear to be mounted upon radiating ribs. There is mounted upon the door-plate within the central ring a a name plate or panel made up of representations of flowers and bunches of grapes, the grapes being in practically two clusters near the center of the plate, and the flowers extending about them and between them. In the ring 6 of the reservoir-plate there is an ornamental plate comprising a cluster of flowers at the center and conventional petals extending therefrom with an occasional flower or portion of a flower about the edge.
The cabinet-base has at each corner a rosette g, consisting of ribs somewhat irregular in shape and radiating outward from near the stove-leg to a surmounting scrolljwhich extends about the upper edge of the rosette in a circular form and ends in a scroll upon the side. Between the two corners the cabinetbase has an open-work eifect h of straight horizontal cross-bars, intersected by vertical bars, and there is mounted upon this section of the base midway between the corners an ornamental plate or panel d having a double involved scroll connected together and having offshoots extending into each corner.
A line i of small knobs extends horizontally along the upper edge of the cabinet-base and a series of three ribs j along the lower edge. The feet of the cabinet-base have also an involved leafy scroll 76 upon a plane surface and an extension from each leg ends with a scroll m upon the lower line-work of the base.
The oven-shelf has at each corner a section of a rosette n of a peculiar form and upon its front edge between the corners, line-work o suggestive of a scroll running in each direction from the center. Between the corners there are two broad bands, forming a space for a name. Back of the inner hand there is a central figure of radiating ribs and a curved border, from each edge of which extends an open-work leaf and vine pattern.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. In the design for a cooking-stove herein I having a central scroll with conventional leaves extending in curved lines to the corners of the plateor door and mounted upon a radiating series of ribs, as shown and specified.
3. In a design for a cooking-stove herein shown and described, the ornamentation for the oven-door consisting of the central panel within the ring a and having representations of clusters of grapes and conventional flowers, as shown and described.
4. In a design for a cooking-stove herein shown and described, the ornamentation for the oven-door, consisting or the central panel within the ring a. and having representations of clusters of grapes and conventional flowers, and outside of said ring radiating conventional flowers extending to the corners of the door, as shown and described.
v 5. In the design for a cooking-stove herein shown and described, the shelf having rosette corners and a central shell-like figure with an open-work design of Vines and leaves eXtending from each edge of the figure, as shown and specified.
6. In the design for a cooking-stove herein shown and described, the cabinet-base having the corner rosettes surmounted by scroll-work and intermediate open-work formed by vertical and horizontal cross-bars, as shown and specified.
7. In the design for a cooking-stove herein shown and described, an ornamental plate for the cabinet-base, having the involved scrolls of a heavy pattern and provided with offshoots extending to each corner of the plate, as shown and specified.
8. In the design for a cooking-stove herein shown and described, the stove-leg having upon the curved portion thereof the involved scrolls, as shown and specified. V p r GEO. E. \VILBUR. In presence of- GEO. W. BARROWS, S. M. FRENCH.
