UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN lV. HER-RICK, OF MILVAUKEE, VISOONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO THE FULLER- VARREN COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,248, dated November 3, 1896.
Application filed July 8, 1892. Seria-l No. 439,420. Terni of patent '7 years.
:To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN lV. HERRICK, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented and pro- 5 duced a new and original Design for Heating- Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make io and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part oi this speciiication.
My design relates to the ornamental form,
I 5 contour, and surface ornamentation of heating-stoves, the leading characteristic features of which are a central vertical column in front separating the mica-sections of the body into two parts or panels, the contour and orna- 2o mentation of the body, and the shape and ornamentation of the base, besides cert-ain minor features hereinafter particularly described, and pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective 2 5 view oi' a stove embodying my design.
A indicates the top of the stove, annular in general form and rounded vertically toward its outer edge, which is surrounded by a plain band l, and ornamented inside of and above 3o said band with scrollwork 2 in low relief.
Around its inner edge it is provided with a transversely-tinted ovolo molding 3.
B is a dome-shaped cover mounted upon the top A and having a plain band 1i around the base and scrollwork ornamentation 5 above said band. The cover is surmounted by an ornament O, consisting of a vertically-iluted ball c, mounted on a base c and supporting a smaller vertically-tinted ball c2, which carries a llame-shaped inial c3, and of open-work scrolls and leaf ornaments c", attached to the base and the larger ball.
D represents the body of the stove, the sides, only one of which is completely shown, 4 5 being alike. It is spheroidal in general outline and comprises two tiers of mica-doors d and d and arch-shaped micaframes d2 above them. These doors and frames are arranged in two sections or panels, one on each side of 5 o the stove between the central vertical column F and vertically-liuted pilasters d3 at the back and on each side of the stove.
E represents an ornamental jacket between the outer lower edge of the top A and the tops of the arch-shaped mica-frames cl2 cl2. It is 55 formed on the sides with fan-shaped ornaments G and scrollwork, and has at the back on each side over the pilasters d3 depending volute ornaments 7.
The column F is expanded at its upper end 6o where it joins the jacket Ein a leaf-and-scroll ornament S and has volute or scroll outline and surface ornamentation its entire length below. The body of the stove is contracted between the upper and lower tiers of doors d 65 and d', which are separated by a half-round vertically-iiuted molding 9. The upper tier of doors d are separated from the arched micapanel frames d? by a plain -iaced circular band l0. l 7o The doors d and the frames cl2 constitute in general outline a segment of a sphere, and the doors d constitute in effect a zone of an intersecting sphere. rThe frames d2 are divided at intervals into quadrangular open- 75 ings by upwardly-converging stiles or bars and are formed with intersecting scrolls. The door-frames d are divided by horizontal and vertical bars into a row of quadrangular openings at the top and bottom, between 8o which is a row of circular frames separated from each other and joined centrally by horizontal bars. The doors d are divided by horizontal and vertical bars into two horizontal rows of quadrangular openings. 8 5
G indicates the base of the stove, which has the general form of a truncated quadrangular pyramid rounded vertically at the base and contracted to meet the bottom'I-I, the plain beveled edge of which is exposed to 9o view. The base, which is slightly curved outward near the top, is surmounted by the base-top I, which is in its general form square, corresponding with the shape of the base in crosssection. It is rounded at its 95 corners and rounded or beveled on the front and sides which overhang the base. It is provided on the corners with rosettes or radiate ornaments 1l and on the front between the corners with scroll ornaments.
The sides roo are ornamented with triglyphs 'l2 or vertical tluting or grooves. The sides of the base G have volute and scrollwork surface ornamentation and to them are secured, by scrollshaped ornaments j j, foot-rests J, having rounded ends with volute or scrollwork ornamentation 13. The front of the base, in which is placed the ash-pit door 7L, has an arch-shaped molding lat crossing the lower portion of the ydoor and above said moldingl radiating fluting and cross-line ornamentation. rlhe radiating damper-openings in the door are arranged in the arc of a circle or curve above the arch-shaped molding, and the exposed faces of the damper are provided with basket or woven-work ornamentation. elow the arch-shaped molding 14 is a double sorollandleaf ornament 15, below whichJ in the inward curve of the base, is the cleanout-iiue door K. The arrangement of this door K and the ornament 15 and the surface ornamentation is such as to partially hide and obscure said door.
L indicates the base-skirting, which is square in general outline in cross-section7 with rounded corners and vertically-rounded or ovolo-shaped sides. It is provided with volute scroll-and-leaf surface ornamentation, which extends over the upper portion of the legs Z Z, the feet of which are rounded and provided with leaf ornaments 16.
B y the arrangement of the mica-doors hereinbefore described in connection with the contour of the body or sides D of the stove an unbroken outline is presented when the stove is viewed from either side, and the lire is fully exposed to view, thereby giving the Vstove a bright cheerful appearance and pleasing outline and symmetrical form.
I olaim- Y The design for a heating-stove, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN IV. HERRICK.
