. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY P. COPE, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 33,234, dated September 18, 1900. Application filed Augu t .25, 1900. Serial No. 28,079. Term ofpatent 7 years.
To CLZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY P. COPE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Heating-Stove; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The drawing is a perspective View of a stove, showing my design.
The leading or material features of my degn consist of the particular shape or design of the surface ornamentations of the several distinct parts or castings viewed as a whole. These several distinct parts are the lower and upper sections of the base or ash-pit section, the fire-bowl, the main body-section, the skirting, the foot-rail, and the top section.
The design as a whole is characterized by the largeness of the scrollwork throughout.
The sides of the lower section A of the base or ash-pit section have each a long scroll-like figure extending throughout the length thereof and consisting of a bar B, which curves upwardly near the middle and terminates at the ends in large volutes or scrolls B. Below the bar portion of said scroll there is a pattern of small scrollwork B. The large scrolls 13 form ornamental corners of the stove,to which legs 0 are attached. The surface ornamentations of the legs harmonize with the scrolls B and consist of a pattern 0, which curves in a direction concentric with the scrolls B and inclose the outer sides of two adjacent scrolls B. A diamond-shaped figure G extends down from a point between the lower branches of the pattern 0, and smaller patterns of scrollwork D D and a circular-shaped figure D" cover the remaining surface of said legs. The sides of the upper section A of the base or ash-pit section are separated from the lower section A by a plain band E, and the surface ornamentations thereof consist f a pattern of large scrollwork F, which terminates at the center and at the four corners of the base in distinct rounded figures or framework F, which inclose surfaces F, more or less uneven. The upper side of the section A is ornamented with large scrolls or curvilinear figures G, which are separated at their adjacent ends by a small pattern G. The ash-pit-door panel is of oblong rectangular form and contains a damper-panel H, having surface ornamentations consisting of three small circles inclosed above and below by small oval and circular figures. The surface decorations on said ash-pit door consist of an oval pattern I, which merges with small ornamental figures I. The ends of the pattern I are inclosed by rows of small irregularshaped figures J of graduated sizes. The exterior surface of the fire-bowl is covered with corrugations K,which extend in Vertical lines. The surface decorations of the sides of the body A" consist of large scrollwork M, which is inclosed by scrollwork N of smaller pattern, the whole being interspersed with small rib-like figures N. The door-panel O is separated from the side panels by vertical bars 0, having ribbed surface ornamentations. The surface decorations of the door-panel consist of two leading and distinct figures P and P, the former of which is an oval pattern and incloses an oval shaped surface surrounded by small scrollwork and designed to receive a name. The lower pattern P consists of a large pattern of scrollwork, which is joined to and extends down from the oval figure P. The curves or branches of the scrollwork P inclose a damper-panel Q of oval shape. On each side of the point where the patterns P and P join there are small scrolls Q. Extending down and out from the lower terminal of the body of the stove is a skirting V, having surface ornamentations consisting of a pattern of scrollwork V of less massive design. The branches or bodies of the scrolls cross each other and terminate in rounded figures at the corners. The foot-rail W joins the skirting V, and its surface is decorated with two large scrollpatterns X X, which cross each other and inclose a rounded figure f.
Surmounting the body of the stove is a top plate R, the edges R of which are plain and devoid of any ornamental work. The top surface of said plate contains a pattern of epen scroll or volute Work R". The dome The design for a heating-stove, substan- A rests upon the top plate R. The lower tially as herein shown and described. I edge thereof contains an ornamental band S, In testimony whereof I affix my signatur. immediately above which is a plain band S. in presence of two witnesses.
5 The dome or rounded portion is embellished HENRY P. COPE.
with ornamental figures consisting of scroll- Witnesses: Work T, inclosing eheekwork T. C. F. BURTON,
