UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
EDWARD G. GERMER, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,305, dated September 6, 1898.
Application filed August 9, 1898. Serial No. 688,215. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, EDWARD G. GERMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Heating-Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
The drawing shows a perspective view of a heating-stove.
The leading features of my design consist, substantially, in the form and ornamentation of a heating-stove embodying a stove-base, rectangular in its general contour, under which there is a skirting joining the legs at the corners of the base, these parts being ornamented with raised scrollwork, said base being surmounted by an upright generally rectangular body comprising an ash-pit section having a door in front with an ornamental arched and outwardly-curving canopy or hood thereon and ornamental foot-rails at the sides thereof, said ash-pit section being surmounted by a fire-pot section, above which there is a combustion-chamber section, said sections having illuminated doors at the front and sides thereof ornamented with cross-bar and scrollwork, said combustion chamber section being surmounted by a subtop section ornamented with circular panels having ornamental work therein radiating from the lower portions thereof, said panels being surrounded by scrollwork, upon which subtop a dome-shaped top is mounted, which is ornamented by bands around the bottom thereof, above which the same is ornamented with scrollwork, and mounted on the center of said top there is an urn, the central portion of which is globular and ornamented with scrollwork and with ornamental scrollwork handles at the sides thereof.
To more particularly describe these features, A is the stove-base, substantially rectangular in its general outline, curving upward and inward from the bottom thereof, the
corners thereof being rounded and having central panels A on the front and sides thereof, with ornamental raised scrolls therein, and having ornamental raised scrollwork a springing from the rounded corners of the base toward the central panels A thereon.
Under the corners of the base A are legs B, ornamented on their upper portions with circles and ornamental work radiating upward and downward therefrom and at their lower portions with scrollwork and semiclawwork, and between the legs B is secured skirting 0, ornamented with scrollwork springing from the central portion of the lower edge thereof.
Mounted upon the base A and rising vertically from the edge of the top thereof is the ashpit section D. In the front thereof there is a door D, having a canopy or hood d, which curves outward from the ends and top of the door I), its lower edge forming an arch spring from the lower corners of the door, this canopy being ornamented with a central circle and with scrollwork. The corners d of the ash-pit section are rounded and ornamented with foliate scrollwork, and the sides of the ashpit section are ornamented with raised scrollwork, and secured to the sides are foot-plates d having their corners rounded and their front edges curved inward and outward and their top surfaces curving outward and downward and ornamented with scrollwork.
Above the ash-pit section there is a molding E, curving outward and downward, having a name-panel e on the front thereof, ornamented at the ends thereof with foliate work, this molding being ornamented at the sides of the stove with raised scrollwork e.
Surmounting the molding E there is a firepot section F, the corners F of which are curved and ornamented with raised foliate work. The front and sides of this section have illuminated doors f and f, ornamented with cross-bars and scrollwork upon said cross-bars. Above the fire-pot section F there is an oval band G, having its corners g rounded and ornamented with raised scroll and foliate work. Surmounting the band G is the combustion-chamber section H, the corner-posts h of which extend from the band G to the lower corners of the subtop I and are rounded and. somewhat curved vertically and ornamented with raised scrollwork, and in the front and sides of this section there are illuminated doors H, having arched tops h and ornamented with cross-bars and scrollwork uponsaid cross-bars.
The lower edge of the subtop I at the front and sides is curved over the tops of the doors H and extends outward somewhat beyond the combustion-chamber section H. The front and-sides I of the subtop I, except at the corners i, which are rounded and swell out ward at the upper portions thereof, curve upward and inward to the base of the top J. In the central portions of the front and sides of the subtop I are curved panels 2', from the lower portions of which ornamental work radiates upward inside of the panels i, and scrollwork springs from the lower portions of these panels and extends outside thereof. The lower portions of the corners i of the subtop I extend downward to the tops of the corner-posts h, and the upper posts swell outward, and these corners are ornamented with scrollwork extending from the centers thereof toward and upon the front and sides I of the subtop I toward the panels 1" thereon.
The top 5 is dome-shaped and rests centrally upon the subtop I and is ornamented with raised sorollwork and bands j around the base thereof, and the central portion of the top J is surmounted with an urn L, comprising a base Z, ornamented with a band of shellwork, a standard 1, a globular body M, having ornamental handles on on its sides and a central fluted knob m on the top thereof, the
globular body M and the handles on thereof being ornamented with raised scrollwork.
What I claim is- 1. In a design for a heating-stove, the design for the base-skirting and stove-legs, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for a heating-stove, the design for the stove-base, substantially as shown and described.

In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWVARD G. GERMER.
