DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No..17,803, dated October 18, 1887.
Application filed September I, 1887. Serial No. 248,557, Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FRANK A. MAGEE and ANDREW GARBUTT, respectively of Chelsea and Revere, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, citizens of the United States, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Stoves, of which the following is aspecification, reference being bad to the accompanying photographs, forming a part thereof.
The photograph on Sheet 1 is a front perspective view of a stove. The photograph on Sheet 2 is a side perspective view of the stove. 4
The stoveis substantially square in cross-section, and has the base A, the intermediate section, B, and the upper section, 0, surmounted by a top. D. Each section has rounded corners. The section A has a base-plate, 41, extending from the sides and the front of the stove-body, somewhat more at the front than at the sides, and below this plate is the stand a, comprising the legs a, ornamented with a shell design, and between the legs are orna mental sections a", which comprise a series of figures of the same character oppositely arranged and inclined from the center of the section, and with an interrupted border above and below the same, ending with a scroll at each corner. Above the plate a is the ash-pit door, the various vertical sections of which have recessed lines extending from thecenter of eacli section, exceptingat the end section, where they extend to a point midway the length of one section, butfrom one side'only. The upper section of the base A also has an ornamented corner of scroll-work and a side panel, a, comprising a ceittral rosette and an elaborate border of curved line and scroll work. The intermediate section, B, rises from the plate b. It has the front panel, b, ornamented with a regularly-curved arch,b,having concentric radial lines, as represented in the photographs, and forming a border for a door. There is worked in about each side of the door and above the door, between it and the edge of the arch, sections of leaf-work. Above the arch is a lamp, and upon each side is a representation of flamesand smoke. flhe corners of this section have a modification of the design of the corners of the lower section.
The side panel is well represented in the photograph on Sheet 2, and it comprises a central diamond-shaped rosette, b, inclosed by a border, b, the lines of which cross each other at the corners, and are then united with each other beyond the corners by straight sections, and upon each side of this border b, extending to the square border b, is mottled or hammered work b".
The body of the upper section, 0, is made of narrow straight ornamental figure, with exten- 7:
sion from each edge thereof, and at the top a medallion with scroll and hammered or mottled work on each side, which fills nearly the entire width of the panel, there being a small fancy rosette and scroll upon each side of this 7 section of the frame.
The door a has a circular border about a central opening and continuous borders about four openings, one at each corner of the door,
and is further ornamented by the sections of 80 scroll-work, and the whole door and frame combines the mottled'or hammered work of the section B with the scroll-work of the lower section.
The panel 0 has four borders, a, each of 8 which surrounds an opening and all inclosed by a square border, and within the square frame is ornamental line-work somewhat in the nature of rosettes. The frame has lower inwardly-curved corners and a name-plate, and go a curved upper edge flanked by two curved sections of less height. This upper section, 0, is surmounted by a top, D, which has the lower ornamented section, (1, of a number of small set circular or oval figures, and an up- 5 per section, d, having rich scroll-work d at as having the each corner, with straightline-work d between, and there may be placed upon the top an ornamental figure, E.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. A design for aheating-stove, comprising a base, A, an intermediate section, B, an up per section, 0, and a top, D, each of whichcis of substantially the same size in crosssection and has rounded corners, and the first two of which have richly-ornamented sides and front, and the upper section of which is smooth finished or plain, excepting the ornamental side panels and ornamental front door-frame and door, and a top section having ornamented sections d d, the whole having the shape and ornamentation shown and described.
2. In a design for a heating-stove, the legbase a, comprising the stove-legs ornamented with a shell design, and the intermediate section, a, ornamented with a series of vertical figures and with enlarged tops oppositely arranged and inclined from the center of each section, with an upper border and a lower border ending with a scroll at each end, as shown and described.
3. In a design for a heating-stove, the side panel, a, comprising a rosette inclosed in a border, the ends of which are crossed and form four scrolls, as shown and described.
4. In a design for aheating-stove front, an arch surmounted by a lamp an'dhaving arepresentation of flames and smoke extending from the upper edge of the arch, as shownand described.
5. In a design for aheating-stove, the panel comprising the diamond-shaped rosette b, the border b, the ends of which are crossed and united, and the hammeredwork corners b, as shown and described.
6. In a design for a heatingstove, the doorframe 0, having side scctio ns ornamented with a narrow straight figure having short outwardly and upwardly diverging sections, and an upper cross-plate having a central medallion and scroll-work upon each side of the medallion upon a hammered surface, and aslnall faucy rosette and scroll upon each side of this upper section, as shown and described.
7. In a design for a heating-stove, the door 0 having a central circular border, the small circular border at each corner, each border inclosing an apertu re, and sections of scroll-work between the various borders, asshown and described.
8. In a design for a heating-stove, a panel having four circular borders, 0, inclosed in a square border or frame, sections of line-work in the nature of rosettes at the center of the panel between the four borders and between the circular borders and the square border at the corners and midway between the corners upon each side and top and bottom, as shown and described.
9. In a design for a heating-stove, the top D, havingthe lower section, d,- ornamented with a line of small curved or semicircular figures, and the upper section, d, having the rich scroll-work d at the corners and straight linework between the same, as shown and described.
