HEATING STOVE.
Patented Jan. 1, 182 39 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO GERMER AND GUSTAVE ll. GUEN'IIIER, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNORS TO BLOCK & GERMER, ()F SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,831, dated January 1, 1889.
Application filed September 10, 1888. Serial No. 285,081 Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, OTTO GERMER, a citizen of the United States, and GUSTAVE H. GUENTHER, a citizen of Germany, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a Design for Heating- Stores; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the acconipanydn'g drawings, and to the let, ters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
Our invention relates to the form and ornamentation of heating-stoves; and it consists in the features hereinafter set forth, and explained and illustrated by the accompanying photographic views of a stove embodying our design, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of our design for aheating-stove. Fig. 2 is a View in perspective showing one side and the rear of the same.
Like letters refer to like parts in both of the figures.
In its general shape our stove is rectangular, with swell front terminating in a semidome-shaped panel under the overhanging molding around the top of the stove.
In its general shape the base A is rectangular, and from its junction with the upright portion of the stove projects outward for a short distance at the front and sides of the stove, fanning a narrow hearth, a, and around the outer edge of the front and sides of this hearth is a fine bead molding, a, and from the outer edge of this hearth a the base A curves downward for a short distance somewhat in the shape of an ogee, forming a band, B, entirely around the base A, the lower edge of the band B terminating in a band of shell molding, b. Under the band of shell molding is the curtain consisting of the panels 0, occupying the front, the sides, and rear of the stove between the legs E, these panels being ornamented with scroll-work c and central medallions, c, of open-work. Corner panels, D, are formed on the upper portion of the legs E, also ornamented with scroll-work, the
panels 0 and I) being all surrounded and separated by narrow bands or styles d.
The legs E are secured under the corners of the base A, and are ornamented with the corner panels, D, on their upper parts, and below the panels, on their fronts, by foliate work e, and terminate in feet or claws e. The faces of the front corner-posts, F, of the first section G, above the base A, are ornamented with a base-hand, f, of shell-work, and above that with foliate work the front of the section G between the posts F being occupied by adoor, II, the center of which curves outward to correspond with the contour of the stove front. Across the base of this door H is a band of shell-work ornamentation, h, and above the band h the door H is provided with a window-opening, h, and ornamented with a scrolhwork, 71
The sides of the lower section, G, are ornamented by scroll-worl panels I and ornamental brackets J and bars J, the bars J being ornamented with scroll-work and griffins heads, the brackets J being ornamented with griffins heads j and rosettes j. The rear of the lower section, G, curves outward in the center to accommodate a return-draft flue passing down and up to and from the stovebase A, and is ornamented by a base-band of shell-work, K, above which it is ornamented with corner-post panels In of foliate work, and a central panel, L, surrounded by scroll and foliate work I, and also with panels M on each side of the central panel, L, having central ornaments of scroll-work, m and between the panels M and the corner panels, 70, are plain panels N, divided by transverse bands at.
Above and surrounding the lower section of the stove is an ogee band-mold, O, ornamented around the lower edge by a band of shell ornamentation, o, excepting across the front of the stove, where the shell ornamentation gives place to a panel, P, surrounded by a small bead-mold border, 10, said panel P consisting of a name-plate.
The second section, Q, of the front of the stove surmounts the band-mold 0, and consists of the corner-posts R and a door, S. The fronts of the posts R are ornamented at their bases by a beaded fluted work, Q", and above the fluted work '1' with foliate work r up to the top of the door S, above which an ornamental band,T, erosscsthe entire front of the stove, forming the top of the second section, Q, of the stove. The door H occupies the entire space between the ornamental eorner-posts It, and has openings forming two rows of windows, 2 t, divided from each other by rosettes and foliate ornaments n, the styles of the same being ornamented by raised borders and rosettes Above the band T the corner-posts R are ornamented with scroll and foliate work 1, surmounted by faces 2 in has-relief. Between the corner-posts R, above the band '1, is a panel, 3, having a dome-shaped top ornamented with a central medallion, 4, and side medallions, 5, the space in said panel around and between the medallions 4 and 5 being filled with ornamental scroll-work G, the corners of the front above the dome-shaped panel 3 being filled with ornamental scrollwork 7.
The sides of the second section, Q, extend from the band-mold 0 to the under edge of the overhanging stove-top, and are each provided with an outwardly-projecting panel,8, having an arched or dome-shaped top, 9, the outer faces of these panels being ornamented with scroll-work 10 and a row of rosettes, 11, across the base thereof, the top and sides thereof being surrounded by an ogee molding, 12, ornamented by a band of shell-work, 13. Above the arched tops 9 of the panels 8 and under the overhanging stove-top the space is filled with ornamental scroll-work 14. The rear of the second section, Q, of the stove likewise extends from the band-mold O to the undor edge or the overhanging stove-stop. The rear faces of the corner-posts are ornamented with fluted, foliate, and band work and faces in has-relief, the same as the front posts heretofore described.
Across the base the rear of the stove above the band-mold O is a plain transverse band, 15, above which is a central panel, 16, having an arched top and ornamented with rosettes and foliate work 1 7, the same as the sid e panels,
8, and at each side of the central panel, 16, is a narrow vertical panel, 18, filled with scroll and foliate work 19, and the space between the panels 18 and the corner-posts is occupied with plain transverse panels 20, divided from each other by narrow bands 21. It will also be observed that the rearof this section curves outward to accommodate the fine, the same as in the first rear section hereinbefore described.
The top section of the stove consists in an overhanging rim having a plain band, 22, entirely around it. Below the band 22 the top recedes by a gradual curve, 23, until it meets the upright port-ion of the stove, the curved portion 23 being ornamented with a band offoliate work, 24. Above the band 22 the top curves upward and inward to the base of the second section, 25, of the top, and is ornamented with foliate and rosette work 26. The base of the section 25 of the top is provided wilh a narrow plain band, 27, from which it curves upward and inward lo the base of the third section, 23,01 the top. Above the band 27 is a second hand, 30, of shell-work, above this band 30 the front, sides, and rear being ornamcniml with panels 2!), ornammited with l'oliate work 3l,the corner spaces between the panels 21! being occupied by eorncrpancls, 32, ornamented with foliate work 33. The third. section, 28, of the cover is provided with a plain band, 34-, around its base, from which it curves inward and upward to the base of the urn 35, and is ornan'ientcd above the band 34 by a band, 36, of fluted work, and at each side of the urn-standard it is provided with open scroll-work 37.
The urn is ornamented by a band of bead-work, 38, around its base, and a band of foliate work, 39, around the body thereof, above which is a border of shell-work, 40, forming an ornamental border around the top thereof. On each side of the urn are ornamental scroll-work handles 41, and centrally from the top of the urn rises an ornamentally-turned cup, 4-2, ornamented with foliate work.
Having thus described our new design for heating-stoves, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
