UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK A. MAGEE, OF CHELSEA, AND ANDREW GARBUTT, OF BOSTON, ASSIGNORS TO THE MAGEE FURNACE COMPANY, OF BOSTON, MASSA- OHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,802, dated October 18, 18817.
Application filed April 1, 1987. Serial No. 933,338. Term of patent 1-1 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FRANK A. MAGEE, of Chelsea, and ANDREW GARBUTT, of Boston, both in the county ofSuffolk and State of Mas 5 sachusetts, both citizens of the United States, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Heating-Stoves,which the followiug is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying photographs, forming a part of this specification,in
explaining its nature.
The invention relates to the design for aheating-stove having the particular ornamentation, shapc, and configuration hereinafter speci' The photograph upon Sheet 1 is a front view of the stove, and the photograph upon Sheet 2 is a side elevation.
The stove has a double-domed top, A, a cy- 2o lindrical barrel or body, B, and a base-section, G, and the outlines of these parts and the proportions of each and the relation which they bear to each other are well represented in the photographs.
The top A has the polished edge a, from which rises the main dome a, and from this main dome rises concentrically a smaller dome, (L The main domebears atits front, preferably, an ornamental name-plate, which is curved to conform to the outline ofthe dome. Thistakes not quite one-third of the surface of the dome and leaves room for two other panels, (one on each side,) one of which is represented in the photograph on Sheet2 at a. The plate or panel 3 5 is richly ornamented with a representation of fuchsia leaves and blossoms, and each panel is also rounded to the outline of the dome. Between these panels are ornamented sections a of the dome, which are shown in the photo- 40 graphs on Sheet 2.
The barrel or main section B of the stove is cylindrical in form, and is of sheet metal relieved by bars and beads struck up therefrom. b is the combustion chamberdoor, and b the door-frame. These are well shownin the photograph on Sheet 1. The design is arabesque in nature, and its essential features are the curved lines running from one side of the door and forming the boundaries or borders of open spaces having the same irregular shape. The frame or casing of the door is more renaissance than arabesque, and its nature is well represented in the photograph on Sheet 1. It com prises a series of leaf-scrolls extending at the bottom from a head or central figure about the 5 corners and at the top from a tile set in the frame downward about the corners. The upper edge ofthc frameextends upwardly at the center and is curved, and the lower portion of the frame extends downwardly at the center and is also curved. The side rail, D,. is circular in plan and has a curved outer edge, does not extend over the front of the base, and is supported at each front end by brackets d, which extend down to the posts d at each front corner of the base. Each bracket has a rosette at the end of the rail, and has a section ornamented with diverging lines or shell-work which extends toward the stove, and the foot of which also has curved lines brought together at the foot and opening outward at their upper end into small scrolls.
The base has the posts d',above referred to, at each corner, which have a spherical top, an upper base plate, a, which is richly orna- 5 mented, the front corner-posts, c, which are regularly curved and have horizontal beadwork in two groups, the front ash-pit door, 0, the hearth-plate c, and the side panels, 0. The ash-pit door 0 has liue-w0rk and figures of arabesque pattern, which are well shown in the photograph on Sheet 1. One of the side panels, 0, is well represented in the photo graph on Sheet 2, and may be styled renais sauce, in nature.
The flue-box E extends from the hearthplate upward to the back of the stove. It is in part continuous, rounded at the back, and having ornamental vertical border-lines e, between which and the stove there is the open- 0 work 6', (see photographs on Sheet 2,) which may also be said to belong to the arabesqne school.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 5 out of the United States- 1. In a design for a heating-stove, the front or combustion-chamber door having an arabesqnepaticrn formed by curvedlines running from one side of the door and forming the patterns or borders of open spaces, as illustrated and described.
2. In adesign for a heating stove, the frame of the combustion-chamber door, having a curved upper edge, a curved lower edge, and ornamental scroll-work extending from each upper corner inward, and scroll-work extending from the head in the lower margin to and about the corners of said frame, as illustrated and described.
3. In a design for a heating'stove, the stovetop comprising a rounded lower dome ornamented with long panels of fuehsialcaves and flowers, and surmounted by a smaller dome arranged concentrically over or on the top of the lower dome, and having a series of curved lines or figures, as illustrated and described.
4. In a design for a heating-stove, a long narrow panel ornamented with a representation of fuchsia leaves and flowers, as illustrated and described.
5. In a design for a healing-stove, a door having vertical bars provided with an arabesque line figure in vertical and horizontal lines. as illustrated and described.
6. In a design for a heating-stove, a door plate or panel having a series of straight arabesqne figures separated from each other, and each of which comprises a series of curved lines forming circles or figures approaching circular form, one above the other, and conneeted with each other by intermediate orna' mental lines having a curved extension from each end, as illustrated and described.
7. In a design for a heating-stove, the side panels, 0, having a central circular rosette which is surrounded by a border of arabesque pattern interwoven or joined at their corners, and the side sections of which are of the same pattern, but reverse] y arranged, and comprise rich or heavy scroll-work, with alarge central oalrleaf-shaped figure, as illustrated and described.
8. In a design for a heating-stove, the side panels, 0, ornamented with renaissance design, as illustrated and described.
9. In a design for a heatingstovaa flue-box, E, rounded upon its back and having open work sides of arabesque pattern, as illustrated and .described.
10. The design fora heating-stove, consisting of a base having a straight front section, rounded corners, and curved sides and back, a circular plain finished body of the same size throughout, rising from the base, an ornamented door-frame upon the front of the body and its door, and a top section comprising a large dome surmounted by a smaller dome, the prevailing ornamentation of the stove be ing arabesque and renaissance, as illustrated and described.
