DESIGN.

HEATING STOVE.
Patented Oct. 8, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FOLKERT KAEMPEN, J R, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE GEM CITY STOVE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design N0. 24,744, dated October 8, 1895.
Application filed August 22, 1895 $eria1No. 560,172. Term ofpatent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FoLKEEr KAEMPEN, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented or produced a new and original Design for l Ieating-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This design has for its object to provide a handsome and ornamental heating-stove which presents a characteristic and distinguishing appearance to the eye.
The leading or distinguishing features of the design are an approximately-square base having rounded corners, vertical flutes along 5 the sides and on the rounded corners, a side foot-pieoe having relief helices at the ends, and
. circular vertically-fluted fire-box having a lateral circular extension at the rear ornamented on its surface with vertical flutes.
o The design also contemplates other distinguishing characteristics, all as hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of a heating-stove orna- 5 mented in accordance with my design.
In the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the main body of the stove, which is cylindrical and provided with two front doors 2 and 3, the upper door being somewhat smaller than the lower door. The upper door is provided with beveled edges ornamented with flutes 4. The lower door is also provided with beveled edges ornamented with flutes 5, and the lower door is also provided with a panel and relief ornamentation, as at 6. The cylindrical body 1 of the stove is provided around the door frame or opening with a plurality of bulbous helices, as at 7. The base of the stove is approximately square and has straight edges 8,
o with rounded corners 9, and feet 10, having scrollwork ornamentation on their surfaces. The sides of the base above the straight edges 8 are ornamented with a plurality of vertical flutes 12, terminating at their upper ends in scrolls 13. At the side of the base above the scrolls 13 is a horizontal foot-rest, having at the front and rear ends the relief volutes 14: and 15, between which the foot-rest has an .rnamental portion 15, approximately in the form of a lyre and appearing as joined to the volutes 14 and 15 by a plurality of ribs, as at 15".
The fire-box of the stove is circular an d vertically fluted, as at 16, and at its rear is expanded to form a lateral circular extension ornamented with vertical flutes 17. The flutes 16 are approximately perpendicular, but the flutes 17 incline outwardly from their base to their upper ends, so that the circular extension at the rear of the fire-box appears as though expanding toward the top portion thereof. A dividing-ring 18 extends around the stove between the fire-box and the cylindrical body 1. The ring 18 is ornamented with a panel 19 and an ornamental bulb 20, and the rear portion of the ring is extended laterally, as at 20. The lateral extension overhangs the rearward extension of the firebox, and the beveled surface of the extension 20 is ornamented with fluting. From the rearward extension 20 of the dividing-ring 18 rises a pipesection 21, ornamented with crimps or flutes 22 and scrollwork 23.
The base of the stove below the verticallyfluted fire-box is provided with a front door 2%, having surface ornamentation, and with a secondary smaller front door 25, also having surface ornamentation.
The top of the cylindrical stove-body 1 is provided with an annular overhanging plain- 8o surfaced ring 26, from which rises a domeshaped top composed of sections 27 and 28 of different diameters, so that the dome-section 27 appears as surmounted by a smaller domesection 28. The dome-section 27 is annular and is ornamented with a plurality of flutes 29, terminating at the upper portion in bulbous ornamentation 30. The dome-section 28 is ornamented with a plurality of flutes 31, terminating at the upper portion in scrollwork 82.
The several features of my design produce a stove which presents a handsome and ornamental appearance.
What I claim is- 1. In a design for a stove, the design for the approximately square base having rounded corners, and a plurality of flutes extending vertically along the side and on the rounded corners and provided with scroll-shaped upper ends, as described and shown.
2. In a design for a stove, the design for a horizontally arranged side foot-rest joined at its inner edge to aribbed fire-box and having at each end the bulbous volute, and provided with a lyre-shaped ornamentation and ribs which fill the space between the end volutes, as described and shown.
3. In a design for a stove, the design for the circular fire-box having vertical flutes, and a lateral, rearward extension expanding toward its top and having its entire surface fluted vertically, as shown and described.
4. In a design for a stove, the design for the dividing ring having the panel, the bulbous ornamentation, and the rearward extension, the entire surface of which is provided with flutes, as described and shown.
5. In a design for a stove, the design for the door frame having the plurality of connected bulbous helices extending from top to bottom of said frame, as described and shown.
6. In a design for a stove, the design for the z 5 top portion having the annular, overhanging ring and the dome sections provided with fluting, bulbous ornamentation and scroll work, as described and shown.
7. In a design for a stove, the design for the 3:
8. The design for a stove, substantially as 35 described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
