DESIGN FOR A COOKING STOVE O'R RANGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,043, dated May 11, 1897.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, EDWARD J. KING and THOMAS E. KENNEDY, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cooking Stoves and Ranges, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove or range, showing our design. Fig. 2 is an end View thereof, showing also the details of ornamentation of a teakettle-shelf and of an ven-shelf.

The leading featn res of our design are found in the parts hereinafter particularly specified, and pointed out in the claims. The general design of the whole stove is of rococo pattern, involving conventionalized leaf like and scroll ornamentations.

The base ornamentation 1 of the stove is a band, involving panels 2. These panels have scroll borders 3, including a row of looped and curled ornaments. Vithin certain of the panels 2 there is also a reticulated portion, and the panels are joined by leaf-like scroll ornaments 5. The legs 6 have ornamentation of a similar character, including a border 7 and a central rib 8. The legs are plain at the lower portion, but have the scroll and leaf like ornamentation on a convex surface on the upper parts thereof. Above this base portion 1 is the main stove portion, which has the ornamented oven-door 9, provided in the middle with a smooth slightly-convex portion 10, on each side of which are scroll and leaf like ornaments 11, and on the side and lower edges are the ribs 11. 111 the center of the door is the cscutcheon 10, having in the center a slightly irregular Maltese cross surrounded by scrolls and leaf-like ornaments, and having in the upper and lower parts a name-plate, as shown.

The reservoir-panel 12 has similar leaf-scroll ornamentation 18, an irregularly fluted and scrolled border 14, and a reticulated panel 15.

The fire pot door 16 has similar scroll-leaf .rnainentation and a central panel 17, which is plain. Eelow the lire-pot door 16 is a panel 18, and which has similar scroll and leaf-like 5o ornamentation 19.

20 is the hearth, which in the present instance is plain. Underneath the hearth is the ash-pit section, with inclined sides, having thereon the vertical flutings 21 and the scroll ornamentation 22, together with a plain portion 28 on the front.

Underneath the oven-door and above the base 1 is the oven-shelf 2 1, having plain edges and scrolled ornamentation 25 upon its upper surface.

26 is the end ash-pit door, which is convex and is provided with rounded edges. The ornamentation 27 in the upper part of this door is symmetrical with reference to a middle vertical line, and consists of the scrolled ornamentation harmonious with that heretofore referred to. In the lower part of this door are a series of parallel oblong openings 28, having between and about them small ornaments 29, similar in character to the ornamentation in the upper part.

Above the door 27 is the feed-door 30, having a series of parallel vertically-arranged ovoid openings 31, and between and about said openings are scrolled leaf-like ornaments 32, similar to those hereinbefore described.

The stove-top has a smooth. border 33, having an upper rounded edge.

Above the top of the stove is the central convex flaring smoke pipe or flue section 34, having thereupon an irregular Maltese cross 35, surrounded by scrolls 3G and conventionalized leaves 37. On either side of the central section are the side supporters 38, consisting of open-work scrolls 39 and an openwork reticulated portion 40. Along the lower edges of the supporters 38 and of the central panel 3 1 is a beaded edging 41.

Above the smoke-pipe section 34 is a smooth edging 4E2, sharply defined on its lower side and rounded on its upper side. Above this is the hot closet, having the front panels or doors 43, provided with symmetrically-arranged leaf and scroll like ornamentation 11 on each end, a smooth slightly convex portion 45. A name-plate or escutcheon adis applied on said smooth portion to of the hotcloset doors, having the ornamental monogram I. R. O. thereon upon a background of scroll and leaf like ornamentation. The hot closet has end panels 17, having a border of the sameserolled-leaf ornamentation 48, together with a central reticulated portion. The top of the hot closet has a smooth edge 51, like the smooth edging above described.

Above the hot closet is an ornamental top or cornice plate 52, composed of scrolls and openings therethrough, a central portion somewhat higher than the end portions, and with an irregular contour composed of different convex and concave curves.

Upon each side bracket 38 is a horizontal teakettle-shelf 58, irregularly oval in con tour and having upon its surface scrolls and beaded fan-like ornamentation 54-.
