To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we,WILLIAM J. This design is for the class of stoves known as open Franklin stoves.
The base or ash-pit Alias its sides ornamented with six scrolls, arranged in pairs, each pair simulating the figure of a lyre, and having between the two members a central stem terminating in a flower and having leaves on each side. The front or ash-pit door is ornamented with rosettes and bands of curved lines passing over one rosette and under the next one to it, as shown. The lower plate of the ash-pit or leg-base B is made plain and sloping slightly outward, and is provided with legs 0, ornamented with scrolls. The upper plate of the base is furnished with an ornamental molding, D.
The stove-body is divided horizontally into two sections by a projecting grooved band. The sides of this body curve outwardly. The lower section of the side is ornamented by a central rosette with scrolls on each side. The upper section of the side is divided into three sub-sections by horizontal ribs. The central subsection is ornamented by the rosettes arranged in a line, above and below which are small scrolls starting from circles surrounding the rosettes. The upper and lower sub-sections are substantially alike, and are ornamented by a central rosette having a circle around it, from which start scrolls arranged at each side.
The doors F of the body are ornamented by waved lines on the edges of the bars composing it, with fine notches on the outer edge of the frame.
At the junction of the doors and sides are set guards on buttresses G, ornamented with rosettes and scrolls.
Above the body is an inclined section, H,
the sides of which are ornamented with a fanshaped device and a rosette in each upper cor ner, between which are scrolls. The front of the inclined section is ornamented with rosettes, a shield, scrolls,&c. At each front corner of the inclined portion, and immediately over the buttresses or guards, are ornaments I, shaped as griffins or nondescript winged animals with outspread wings. Above this is a projecting molding, J, ornamented with leaves; and above this again is the top K, square at the base and having a rounded surface ornamented with scrolls, the whole surmounted by an open-work cover, L.
, The due M to the rear of the stove is orna mcnted by scroll-work, as shown.
What we claim as new is- 1. The design for a stove, comprising the rectangular aslrpit section, the body, the upwardly and inwardlyinclined rectangular top section, H, above said body, the projecting molding J, and the rounded top, as shown.
2. In a design for a stove, the ash-pit section having a panel ornamented with scrol1- work inclosing rosettes simulating the figure of a lyre, as shown.
