Be it known that we, EDWARD J. KING and THOMAS E. KENNEDY, citizens of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The leading features of our design are the shape and ornamentation of the various main parts of the stove and the effect produced by the harmonious arrangement of these parts, as shown in the drawing, which is a perspective View of our design.
A indicates the stove-base, substantially rectangular in plan view and having the rounded plain surfaces a at front and sides and ornamented in relief at the corners by the scrollwork ornaments a.
A indicates the 1egs,having the scroll and leaf ornamentation b at the bottom, the plain surfaces 17, and at the upper portions next the corners of the base the flame ornamentation 6 Between the front legs and extending somewhat above the top of the legs is the panel or ash-pit door 0, having the central ornament C in the shape of a Maltese cross, and the leaf and scroll ornaments at the sides and around the top border. This door,in connection with the base and legs, produces the effect of a base with a downward extension between the front legs lower than the general horizontal line of the base.
D indicates the under portion of the firepot section, ornamented by vertically-extending rounded ribs, and above this is the overhanging plate or apron E, heavily ornamented with the scroll and leaf ornamentation shown and having at the corners the plain bands 6, inclosing the rosettes e. The upper part of the fire-pot section is rounded and covered with the scroll and leaf ornamentation E, and between this and the apron or plate E is a plain zone or band E across which extend the ornaments 8 connecting with the bands 6. At the lower part of the apron E and on opposite sides of the stove are the foot-rails F, havingthe smooth surfaces and the ornamental ends F. g
G indicates the stove -body, having the smooth sides broken only by bands or swells g. At the front of the body are arranged the lower feed-door H and the upper feed-door J, the former covered with the leaf and scroll ornamentation and having the central ornamental draft-door H thereon. The upper door is provided at the lower edge with the ornamental border J, and its upper portion is slightly rounded, leaving a panel which may contain suitable lettering. (Not shown.) The ornamental frame around the two front doors is provided with the ornaments K at the upper portion and the ribbed columns K at the sides.
The doors H and J and the door-frame constitute what we denominate the body-front. Above the body is arranged the top section of the stove, embodying the lower flange or apron L, having the scroll and leaf ornamentation L at the central portion of the front and sides, and above this is the rounded ornamental band M and the cover N, suitably ornamented with scrolls and leaves and having the urn-like ornament O at the extreme top. The shape of the ornament 0 could be changed without altering the appearance of the top section, the essential features of which are the three curved surfaces gradually decreasing in size with the ornamentation substantially as shown.
We claim 1. In a design for stoves the design for the base, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for stoves, the design for the base and legs, and the central panel 0, substantially as shown and described.
