U N ITED TATES GEORGE E. VILBUR, OF TAUNTON,
IATENT UFFICE.
MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGXOR TO THE DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,810, dated July 21, 1896.
Application led May 29, 1896. Serial No. 593,670- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. WILBUR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Design for Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in explaining its nature.
The invention consists in the form of certain parts of the stove, as well as in the surface ornamentation thereof. The latter consists of scrolls in the form of branches, having sprays of leaves of a conventional shape.
The drawing represents a stove embodying the features of my invention.
A are the stove-legs. The upper part of each leg is bowed outwardly, and on this is a representation of a scallop'shell having a wreath surrounding it.
B is the base of the stove. It is ornamented in the center of each side by four branches which spring from a common center, two curving toward each other to form a wreath and the other two arching away and having their ends inwardly rolled. Besides this there is a scroll extending from nnder the bunch of leaves to the legs on each side. At each corner of the base there is a wreath similar to that in the center, but with its ends inwardly curved to some extent.
C is the stove-door, on which are leafy -branches curving together toward the middle.
D is the oven-door, with the name-plate in the center partly surrounded by four leafy branches springing from two centers, one on either side of the name-plate. This plate is oval in general shape, the ends having the representation of a nautilus-shell. On the plate just below the indicator there is a wreath similar to those already described, but more tightly rolled.
The stove-plate E is ornamented on each side by a set of leaves, one set being smaller than the other, and the edge of the plate curves upwardly toward the side of the stove, as shown.
9. The design for a stove-plate substansubstantially as shown and described.
10. The design for a stove-base substantially as shown and described.
The back F is divided into three parts ff f 2 by two horizontal shelves. The lowest section has the central portion bowed outwardly, as shown. The ornamentation is similar to that already described, the leafwork on the two sides, however, being rather heavier than before, with thicker sprays. In the middle section f' the central portion is bowed inwardly and has a wreath of leaves whose sprays are finer than the others.
The recessing of the back plate adds greatly to the beauty of the stove, and is thought to be a novel feature of some importance.
The upper section of the back plate is wider than the central portion, but not of any great height. The ornamentation of it is similar to the rest.
It will be noticed that the ornamentation of all parts of the stove consists in diierent groupings of substantially the same conventional leafy branches. These are made heavy or light, and the individual sprays are various in shape. The sprays and branches are curved in different directions to a greater or less degrec, and in this way a variety of pleasing effects is brought about by slight variations.
I would not be understood as limiting myself to the specific ornamentation of the several parts, but I wish to secure the right to use the design as a whole, and also the form of the stove.,
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- 1. The design for a stove herein shown and described.
2. In a stove the form of the back plate substantially as shown and described.
3. In a design for stoves, a wreath composed of curved branches covered by leaf-like sprays, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a design for a stove a back plate having a section with an inwardly-bowed center, substantially as shown and described.
5. The design for a back plate substantially as shown and described.
6. The design for a stove-door substantially as shown and described.
11. The design for a stove-leg substantially as shown and described.
GEO. E. WILBUR.
