UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VER'IER C. HIGGINS, CF NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A COOKlNG-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,208, dated April 16, 1895.
Application filed January '7, 1895. Serial No. 534,141. Term of patent 3% years.
citizen of the United States, residing at Nor-Y wich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Stoves; and 1 declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
The leading feature of my design consists in the particular ornamentation of the several surfaces of the stove, and the general outline thereof, as fully described in the specification and clearly illustrated in the drawing, which is a perspective of a stove embodying my new design.
In the center of the leg-frame A is formed a circular ligure 1, within which is a quarterfoil, and radiating from the lower portion of this circle is an inverted crown 2, projecting below the edge of the stove. The circle 1 is partly inclosed by an induplicate figure 3, and extending from either side of the latter, are configurations of leaves and vines 4, and these are bounded above and below, by rims 5 and 6, respectively. The upper portions of the legs B are ornamented by figures 7, having the general appearance of shields or heartshells.
Around the bottom of the body of the stove, is a quarter-molding S, provided with parallel vertical corrugations. giving the appearance of knurling.
C is the oven door, whose surface is somewhat convexed, and in substantially the center thereof is disposed a name-plate 9, which is of a general oval shape, except its lower side, which is broken by a circle 10. This plate is bounded by a beaded ligure 11, terminatingon either side of said circle. Projecting from the upper and lower sides of the name-plate are radial corrugations 12 and 13, respectively. The remainder of the surface of the door is ornamented by configurations of leaves and vines.
D denotes the firebox door, the principalornamentation of which is the heart-shell ligure 14, the remainder of the surface being a leaf configuration, and the foot piece 15 being knurled to correspond with the molding of the stove body.
The ash-pit shelf is bounded by a quartermolding 16, which is also knurled to match the said body molding.
Eis the mantel-and F the mantel-stand, which is in the general shape of a cross, and whose center 17, is somewhat semi-cylindrical and its sides 18 of crescent shape, terminating at the bottom in annular brackets 19. In the center of the mantel-stand a quarterfoil figure 20, inclosed in a circle 21, around which are two scrolls 22, of induplicate form, the space between the said scrolls and circle being lled in with leaves, and from the top and bottom of the scrolls radiate corrugations 23 and 24. The remaining surface of the body of the mantelstand is ornamented by leaf and vine configurations 25. The foot G, or that portion of the mantel-stand which rests immediately upon the eye-plate, represents a twisted, or interwoven molding, having a plain band bottom. The upper, or crown portion H of this stand, is of open fret work, and semi-elliptical in the center. NVithin this semi-elliptical portion is afan-shaped figure 2G inclosed in an induplicate scroll 27.
I denotes the side of the water-tank, the top and bottom being bounded by knurled moldings 2S and 29, respectively, similar to the body molding; and its surface ornamented with leaves and vines 30, the central figures 31, being inclosed by scrolls 32, from which project radial corrugations, 33 and 34.
Having thus fully described my design, what I claim is" The design for stoves, substantially as herein shown and described.
IVERTER C. HIGGINS.
