Application filed April 19, 1888. Serial No. 271,237. Term of patent '7 years. I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, VVILLIAM J. KEEP and CHARLES WIPFLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of 5 Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Cooking-Stoves, of which the followmg is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying photograph. The leading features of this design reside, In addition to the ornamentation of the stove as an entirety, in the peculiar shape and ornamentation of the segregable parts thereof, as shown in the accompanying photograph.
Referring now to the said photograph by letter, A represents the leg, having a plain oval ornament at the foot, plain sides, and a series of stems starting from the plain portion and running upward and toward the center of the front of the leg, where each terminates in a small knob or disk. Above the stems is a series of angular grooves.
The leg-base B is ornamented by a series of scrolls, which start from each corner, and atter leaving the same run in a substantially straight line in an inclined position toward the center, where it terminates in another scroll which depends below the highest portion of the straight line between the scrolls. Another part of the corner scroll spreads out somewhat like a fan between the main scroll and the straight-lined portion connecting the main scroll with the smaller one.
The oven-door G is provided at its upper rear corner with a flame-like ornament running along the top and partially down one side, and at its bottom are shown branches or stems starting from a smallscroll and leaf and terminating in irregularly-shaped leaves. Be-
tween these two ornaments is an ornamental panel with lettering thereon.
One of the fire-doors, D, at its upper lefthand corner is provided with a flame-like ornament very similar to that on the oven-door,
and on its opposite corner with a series of small curved stems terminating in opening buds and starting from a scroll. The other fire-door,E,(over the hearth,) has its lower half vertical and its upper half projecting and slightly inclined, both halves having a series of vertical ribs, betwecn which are sunken portious.
The end of the reservoir Fisprovidedat itsupper right-hand corner with a flame-shaped ornament similar to that on the oven-door, and on its bottom with an ornament consisting of a small scroll from which startsacnrved leaf partially divided into a series of leaflets, each consisting of a central long point and a pair of shorter points, one on each side of the long point.
What we claim as new is-- 1. Adesign for a cooking-stove, comprising the legs, the leg-base, the oven and fire doors, and reservoir, all. having the ornamentation shown.
2. In a design for a cooking-stove, a leg having the, oval lower portion. and the stems running upward and toward the center of the leg and terminating in enlarged tops, said 7:: tops forming two parallel lines, as shown.
3. In a design for a cooking-stove, a leg base having corner and central scrolls connected by straight lines, and a fan-like ornament between the large scroll and straight lines and terminating in points at its upper end, as shown.
4. In a design for a cooking-stove, an ovend'oor having a triangular fiamelike ornament at one corner and at the bottom curved branching ornaments terminating in irregular-shaped leaves, as shown.
5. In a design for a cooking-stove, a firedoor, D, having a flame like ornament in one corner and curved stems terminating in opening buds, as shown.
6. In a design for a cooking-stove, the res ervoir end panel having a triangular flame like ornament in one corner and a curved leaf extending along the bottom and terminating in leaflets, as shown.
