xを1〜5の整数として、後の充電−放電サイクルn+xにおいて、a×Qnと等しい容量Qn+xまで電池を充電するための手段
を備えるリチウム−硫黄電池のための電池管理システムを提供する。
この例では、リチウム−硫黄電池は固定電圧まで200サイクル以上充電される。図1は、電池の寿命にわたる充電および放電容量曲線を示す。図からわかるように、容量は、サイクル寿命の増加に伴い低下する。
この例では、サイクル15の終わりに容量低下の初期兆候が見られるまで、リチウム−硫黄電池は、固定電圧まで充電される。サイクル15の放電容量Q15が決定され、サイクル16では、電池はa=1.10として、a×Q15である容量まで充電される。サイクル16の放電容量、Q16を次に決定し、サイクル17では、電池はa×Q16まで充電され、このように続けていく。図2からわかるように、容量低下の割合は、この充電方法を用いることにより低減される。

- 充電−放電サイクルn中の電池の放電容量Qnを決定するステップ、
a=1.05〜1.4として、a×Qnの値を計算するステップ、
xを1〜5の整数として、後の充電−放電サイクルn+xにおいて、a×Qnと等しい容量Qn+xまで電池を充電するステップ、
電池の閾値放電容量Q t を決定するステップ、
後の放電サイクルにおいて電池の放電容量Qを決定するステップ、および
電池の放電容量Q m が0.8Q t 未満に低下した場合、(i)bを1.05〜1.3として、b×Q t 、または(ii)2.45Vのどちらか低いほうまで電池を充電するステップ
を含むリチウム−硫黄電池の充電方法。 - xが1、2または3から選択される整数である、請求項1に記載の方法。
