Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 （産業上の利用分野） 本発明は優れた反撥性および飛距離を有するラージサ
イズのスリーピースソリッドゴルフボールに関する。
（従来の技術） これまでスリーピースソリッドゴルフボールについて
は多くの特許出願がなされているものの、ツーピースゴ
ルフボールより優れた性能、即ち高い反撥性およびゴル
フボールに重要な良好な飛び、さらに快い打撃感を有す
るもの、特にラージサイズのゴルフボールにおいて優れ
たものはまだ開発されていない。
例えば、特公昭63−61029号公報には、高反撥性およ
び好打撃感を得るために、ソリッドコアの内層（内芯）
を小さな比重にし、外層（外被）を大きな比重にして比
重差を持たせることが提案されている。しかし、スモー
ルサイズゴルフボールでは十分に大きな比重差が得られ
るので、高反撥性が得られているが、ラージサイズでは
満足のいく反撥性、飛距離および打撃感が得られていな
い。また、特開昭62−181069号公報では、大きな飛距離
と、好打撃感およびコントロール性を得るために、ソリ
ッドコアの内径を24〜29mmと比較的小さくし、又大きな
比重の内層と小さな比重の外層により比重差を持たせて
いる。しかし、現行のツーピースゴルフボールと比較し
反撥性および飛びにおいてこれをしのぐに致っていな
い。更に内層には現在はあまり使用されていないTMPT
（米国特許第3,313,545号）を配合しているため、耐久
性において現行ツーピースゴルフボールよりも非常に悪
い。
更に、特開昭60−241464号公報では、高反撥性と好打
撃感を得るために、上記特開昭と同様、大きな比重の内
層と小さな比重の外層により比重差を持たせ、又内層を
軟くすることによりボールの慣性モーメントを小さくし
ている。このボールは打撃感については満足のいく結果
が得られているが、反撥性ではツーピースゴルフボール
の最高反撥をしのぐものは得られていない。
（発明が解決しようとする課題） 本発明者らはスリーピースソリッドゴルフボールを検
討していくうちに、これまで提案されてきたスリーピー
スソリッドゴルフボールは全てスモールサイズに適して
おり、ラージサイズには必ずしも適していないことを発
見した。即ち、ラージサイズの場合、それに独特の構成
が必要であると考えられる。
尚、スモールサイズのゴルフボールは1.620インチ（4
1.15mm）以上であり、ラージサイズのゴルフボールは1.
680インチ（42.67mm）以上であると日本ゴルフ協会のル
ールで規定されている。ゴルフボールは大きくなれば風
の抵抗を受け易いので、風の抵抗を受けないように規定
の最小の値、例えばラージサイズのゴルフボールでは1.
680インチ（42.67mm）を目標として製造されている。
本発明の目的は従来のツーピースゴルフボールより高
い反撥性を有し、かつツーピースゴルフボールの欠点で
ある打撃感を改善し、更に飛び性能、例えば飛距離等を
向上したラージサイズのスリーピースゴルフボールを開
発することである。
（課題を解決するための手段） 上記目的を達成するため本発明者等は検討の結果、優
れた性能を有する、ラージサイズのスリーピースソリッ
ドゴルフボールを見出し、本発明を成すに至った。
即ち、本発明は内芯と該内芯を包む外被から成るソリ
ッドコアをカバーで被覆したスリーピースソリッドゴル
フボールにおいて、内芯の直径が29〜36mm、ソリッドコ
アの直径が37〜41mm、内芯の中心硬度（JIS−Ｃ）が25
〜70、外被の硬度（JIS−Ｃ）が80〜95、内芯の中心硬
度と外被の硬度との差が10以上であり、かつ内芯の比重
と外被の比重が1.0＜内芯の比重≦外被の比重＜1.3を満
足することを特徴とするラージサイズのスリーピースソ
リッドゴルフボールを提供する。
本発明によるスリーピースソリッドゴルフボールのソ
リッドコアを構成する内芯（１）と外被（２）の配合は
所望により本発明範囲内において適宜変えてもよい。
ソリッドコアの配合成分には基材ゴム、架橋剤、共架
橋剤、不活性充填剤等が含まれる。
基材ゴムとしては従来からソリットゴルフボールに用
いられている適宜の天然ゴムおよび／または合成ゴムを
使用することができるが、本発明においては、シス構造
を少なくとも40％以上有する1,4−ポリブタジエンが特
に好ましく、所望により該ポリブタジエンに天然ゴム、
ポリイソプレンゴム、スチレンブタジエンゴム等を適宜
配合してもよい。
架橋剤としてはジクミルパーオキサイドやｔ−ブチル
パーオキサイドのような有機過酸化物およびアゾビスイ
ソブチルニトリルのようなアゾ化合物等が例示される
が、特に好ましいものはジクミルパーオキサイドであ
る。
架橋剤の配合量は基材ゴム100重量部に対して通常0.5
〜3.0重量部、好ましくは1.0〜2.5重量部である。
共架橋剤としては特に限定するものではないが、不飽
和脂肪酸の金属塩、就中、炭素原子数３〜８の不飽和脂
肪酸（例えばアクリル酸、メタクリル酸等）の亜鉛塩や
マグネシウム塩が例示されるが、アクリル酸亜鉛（正
塩）が特に好適で、この配合量は基材ゴム100重量部に
対して内芯では５〜25、外被では25〜50重量部である。
不活性充填剤としては酸化亜鉛、硫酸バリウム、シリ
カ、炭酸カルシウムおよび炭酸亜鉛等が例示されるが、
酸化亜鉛が一般的で、その配合量は内芯と外被の比重、
ボールの重量規格等に左右され、特に限定的ではない
が、通常は基材ゴム100重量部に対して３〜150重量部で
ある。
上記成分を配合して得られるソリッドコア内芯用組成
物は常套の混練機、例えばバンバリーミキサーやロール
等を用いて混練し、コア内芯用金型で圧縮または射出成
形し、成形体を架橋剤および共架橋剤が作用するのに十
分な温度（例えば架橋剤としてジクミルパーオキサイド
を用い、共架橋剤としてアクリル酸亜鉛を用いた場合に
は約150〜170℃）で加熱硬化して直径が29〜36mm、好ま
しくは30〜34mm、比重が1.0〜1.3のソリッドコア内芯を
調製する。内芯直径が29mm以下であると衝撃性が高くな
り、フィーリングが悪く、36mmを越えると外被が薄くな
りフィーリングが軟かすぎ、耐久性も低下する。
この場合、ソリッドコア内芯の硬度（JIS−Ｃ）が中
心で25以上70未満、好ましくは40〜65になるように加熱
硬化条件（例えば昇温速度、加熱温度、加熱時間等）を
適宜調整することが重要である。中心の硬度が25以下で
あるとフィーリングが柔らかくなりすぎ、反撥性が悪く
なる。71以上であるとボールが硬くなりすぎ、打撃時の
感触が悪く実用に耐えない。
本発明によるソリッドゴルフボールのソリッドコアは
上記のようにして調製される内芯上さらに外被を設ける
ことによって形成される。
即ち、前記成分を配合混練して得られるソリッドコア
外被用組成物を内芯上に同中心的に圧入成型し、この２
層成形体を外被中に配合された架橋剤や共架橋剤が作用
するのに十分な温度で加熱硬化して直径が37〜41mmのソ
リッドコアとする。ソリッドコアの直径が37mm以下であ
るとカバーが厚くなり反撥性が低下する。41mm以上であ
るとカバー厚が薄くなり耐久性が悪くなる。
外被の硬度（JIS−Ｃ）は80〜95、好ましくは82〜92
にするのが良い。外被の硬度が80より小さいと反撥性が
悪くなり、95を越えると反撥性の向上はみられるもの
の、脆くなり耐久性が悪くなる。
本発明によれば、上記内芯の中心の硬度と外被の硬度
の差が10以上であることを要する。換言すれば、内芯が
外被に比べてかなり軟かいのが好ましい。本発明者等の
検討によれば、内芯が軟らかい程、ボール打撃時の衝撃
力が低下し、外被の硬度を上げると反撥性が向上する。
上記差が10より小さいと反撥性が低下し、かつ打撃時の
衝撃力が上がる。
本発明では内芯と外被の比重も重要であり、両者が 1.0＜内芯の比重≦外被の比重＜1.3 （式１） の関係を満足することを要する。スモールサイズのボー
ルでは内芯と外被の比重の差が大きい方が好ましいが、
ラージサイズのボールでは比重の分布は反撥性に余り影
響を与えないことが解った。打撃時の衝撃力ではむしろ
比重に分布がない（内芯の比重≒外被の比重）のが好ま
しい。従って、反撥性と打撃時の衝撃力とを考慮すると
上記関係（式１）を満足することが必要となる。
以上の構造により、ボールの飛びに影響するスピン量
が減少し、打出角が高くなる傾向を有し、結果的にツー
ピースゴルフボールを越える飛距離と好フィーリングを
備えたラージサイズスリーピースゴルフボールが得られ
た。
以上のようにして得られるツーピースソリッドコアは
厚さ0.9〜2.9mmのカバーで被覆される。カバーとしては
アイオノマー樹脂を主材とし、必要により着色等の目的
で無機充填剤（例えば二酸化チタン、酸化亜鉛等）を含
有させたものが通常使用される。
好ましいアイオノマー樹脂はモノオレフィンと炭素原
子数３〜８の不飽和モノまたはジカルボン酸およびそれ
らのエステルから成る群から選択される少なくとも１種
との重合体（不飽和モノまたはジカルボン酸および／ま
たはこれらのエステル４〜30重量％含有）に交差金属結
合を付与した熱可塑性樹脂である。このようなアイオノ
マー樹脂としてはデュ・ポン社から市販されている各種
の「サーリン」（例えば、サーリン1601、1707、1605等
またはこれらの組合せ）が例示される。
カバーをソリッドコアに被覆する方法は特に限定的で
はないが、通常は予め半球殻状に成形した２枚のカバー
でソリッドコアを包ま、加熱加圧成形するが、カバー用
組成物を射出成形してソリッドコアを包みこんでもよ
い。
（発明の効果） 以上のようにして得られるラージサイズスリーピース
ソリッドゴルフボールは、従来のツーピースゴルフボー
ルに比べ高反撥性、好フィーリングを有し、かつ飛距離
等の飛び性能を向上したものである。
（実施例） 以下、本発明を実施例によって説明するが、本発明は
これら実施例に限定されない。尚、硬度分布の測定位置
を特定する場合、すべて中心を基点とし、例えば５〜10
mmとは中心より５〜10mmの位置のことを示す。
実施例１〜５ 表−１の配合処方によるソリッドコア内芯用組成物を
混練ロールを用いて、155℃で30分間加圧成形してソリ
ッドコア内芯をそれぞれ調製した。
この内芯上に同中心的に、表−１の処方により配合混
練したソリッドコア外被用組成物を圧入成形によって設
け、この２層成形体を155℃で30〜40分間加熱処理して
ツーピースソリッドコアを得た。
得られたツーピースソリッドコアを表−１の配合処方
によって調製したカバー用組成物を射出成形してソリッ
ドコアを包み、ラージサイズのスリーピースソリッドゴ
ルフボールを製造した。
製造されたボールの物性を表−１に示す。
比較例１〜７ 表−１に示す配合で実施例１の手順に準拠してスリー
ピースソリッドゴルフボールを得た。得られたゴルフボ
ールの物性を表−１に示す。
比較例１〜３及び７は内芯直径が29mm未満であり、比
較例２、６及び７は内芯の比重が外被の比重より大き
く、比較例４は内芯の中心硬度が25未満で中心から５〜
10mmの硬度が40未満であり、比較例５は内芯の中心硬度
が70以上で５〜10mmの硬度が70以上の場合である。
比較例８ 市販の一級品ツーピースゴルフボールを使って物性試
験を行った。結果を表−１に示す。
１）BR−11（日本合成ゴム社製） ２）JIS K−6301に準じ、JIS C型硬度計を用い、コアー
表面に垂直に保って硬度を測定する。
３）サーリン1605とサーリン1706の混合品。
４）ボールに198.4gの金属円筒物を45m/sの速度で衝突
させた時のコアまたはボールの速度より算出した反撥係
数を比較例８を100として表わした指数。
５）クラブの加速度変化を測定し、算出した最大衝撃力
を比較例８を100とした指数。
６）ツルーテンパー社製スイングM/Cにより、ヘッドス
ピード45m/secでボールを打ち出し、落下した地点まで
飛距離をキャリー（ｍ）とし、さらにころがり停止した
地点までの飛距離をトータル（ｍ）として測定した。
比較例１〜３及び７より内芯直径が29mm未満だと反撥
性が低下する。また比較例６より内芯比重が外被比重よ
り大きい場合も反撥性が低下する。更に比較例４及び５
より内芯の中心硬度が25未満の場合は反撥性の低下をも
たらし飛距離が低下することを示す。中心硬度が70以上
の場合最大衝撃力が極めて大きくなりフィーリングが悪
化する。

    コアをカバーで被覆したスリーピースソリッドゴルフボ
    ールにおいて、内芯の直径が29〜36mm、ソリッドコアの
    直径が37〜41mm、内芯の中心硬度（JIS−Ｃ）が25〜7
