本発明は一般に、バッテリーの分野に関するものである(たとえば自動車始動、照明およびイグニッション(SLI)バッテリーなどの鉛酸バッテリー、工業用バッテリー、市販バッテリー、および船舶用バッテリー)。さらに詳細には、本発明は、バッテリー用の活性材料で使用するための材料およびそのような材料を作製する方法に関するものである。

本発明は、ペースト材料を生成するために四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を鉛含有酸化物と混合することを含む、バッテリープレートを作製する方法に関するものである。粒子は、約2.5マイクロメートル未満の平均球状粒径を有する。方法はまた、ペースト材料の少なくとも一部をバッテリーグリッド上に供給することと、その上に硬化ペーストを有するバッテリープレートを製造するために、約48℃未満の温度にてバッテリーグリッドおよびペースト材料を硬化させることを含む。
例示的な実施形態により、バッテリーペーストの成分として四塩基性硫酸鉛を(たとえばPbOと共に)利用する、陽極プレートまたはグリッドを製造する工程または方法は、陽極プレート材料の節約(たとえば4〜8%)をもたらし、鉛酸バッテリー性能またはサイクル寿命の損失がほとんどまたは全くなく、製造生産性の低下がほとんどまたは全くない。
90重量%超の純度の四塩基性硫酸鉛(三塩基性硫酸鉛汚染物質)を、Bell System Technical Journalの1970年11月に発行された号でBiagetti and Weeksが述べた手順に従って、高温水性スラリー50ガロン中で60ポンドのロットで調製した。乾燥材料を、1マイクロメートルの球状粒径に基づく平均体積まで、公称標準偏差1マイクロメートルでジェット粉砕した。レーザベース粒径アナライザを使用して、四塩基性硫酸鉛種粒径すべてを定量した。
Claims (20)
- バッテリープレートを作製する方法であって、
ペースト材料を形成するために、約2.5マイクロメートル未満の平均球状粒径を有する四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を鉛含有酸化物と混合することと、
前記ペースト材料の少なくとも一部をバッテリーグリッド上に供給することと、
その上に硬化ペーストを有するバッテリープレートを製造するために、前記バッテリーグリッドおよびペースト材料を約48℃未満の温度で硬化させることと、
を含む方法。 - 前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子が約2マイクロメートル未満の平均球状粒径を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子が約1〜2マイクロメートルの平均球状粒径を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記硬化ステップが約95%の湿度レベルで実施される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記硬化ペーストが約2〜5マイクロメートルの厚さを有する四塩基性硫酸鉛結晶を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記硬化ステップが約46〜48℃の温度で実施される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- ペースト材料を形成するために、四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を鉛含有酸化物と混合する前記ステップが、前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を約0.1〜10.0重量パーセントの装填レベルで前記鉛含有酸化物に添加することを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記混合ステップが約60℃未満の温度で実施される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を前記鉛含有酸化物と混合する前に、前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を形成するために四塩基性硫酸鉛を粉砕することをさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- バッテリー用プレートを作製する方法であって、
ペーストを形成するために、約2マイクロメートル未満の平均球状粒径を有する四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を鉛含有酸化物と混合することと、
バッテリーグリッドの少なくとも一部を前記ペーストでコーティングすることと、
その上に硬化ペーストを有するバッテリープレートを製造するために、前記バッテリーグリッドおよびペースト材料を約48℃未満の温度で加熱することと、
を含む方法。 - 前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子が約2マイクロメートル平均球状粒径を有する、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記混合ステップが前記四塩基性硫酸鉛粒子を約1重量パーセントの装填レベルで前記鉛含有酸化物に添加することを含む、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記混合ステップが約60℃未満の温度で実施される、請求項10に記載の方法。
- バッテリーを作製する方法であって、
ペースト材料を形成するために、約2.5マイクロメートル未満の平均球状粒径を有する四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を鉛含有酸化物に添加することと、
前記ペースト材料の少なくとも一部をバッテリーグリッド上に供給することと、
その上に硬化ペーストを有するバッテリープレートを形成するために、約40℃未満の温度で前記バッテリーグリッドおよびペースト材料を硬化することと、
バッテリーを製造するために、前記バッテリープレートを容器内に供給することと、
前記バッテリーを充電することと、
を含む方法。 - 前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子が約1〜2マイクロメートルの平均球状粒径を有する、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記硬化ペーストが約2〜5マイクロメートルの厚さを有する四塩基性硫酸鉛結晶を含む、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記硬化ペーストが前記硬化ステップ後に50〜60重量パーセントの四塩基性硫酸鉛結晶を含む、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記硬化ステップが約46〜48℃の温度で実施される、請求項14に記載の方法。
- ペースト材料を形成するために四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を鉛含有酸化物と混合する前記ステップが、約1重量パーセントの前記四塩基性硫酸鉛の粒子を前記鉛含有酸化物に添加することを含む、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記バッテリーを充電するステップが前記硬化ペーストを二酸化鉛に変換する、請求項14に記載の方法。
