Abstract

738,754. Reservoir pens. DEL PIERO, A. July 14, 1952 [July 13, 1951 ; May 12, 1952]. No. 17779/52. Class 146(3). A reservoir pen, supplied with ink from a removable cartridge pierced by a hollow rod carried by the nib section and provided with perforations which connect the cartridge with the inside of the rod, is characterized by a feed element having a number of projecting needle-like members provided inside the pointed hollow rod to assist in providing a constant flow of ink from the cartridge to the writing point. The cartridge 13 has, as shown, rigid walls and a resilient cap 21 of a translucent material, e.g. polystyrol, cellulose acetate, or polythene, inward pressure of the cap causing a reduction of internal volume of the cartridge. The forward end of the cartridge has a resilient head 12, preferably of acid-resistant synthetic rubber fitted in a housing 13b. The head 12 is pierced to permit ink to flow to the nib by a hollow rod R having a sharp point 11 and holes 11a. A feed member comprising a grooved conical portion 19 and two needle-shaped rods 18 is slidable in the rod, such that in the position shown the portion 19 rests on a seat 10 to decrease the downward flow of ink. The cartridge 13 has a thread 13a engaging a thread 16 of a cartridge holder 4 provided with inspection holes 15. The holder 4 is enclosed by. a screw-on casing 17, which is removed to replenish the cartridge 13. The head 12 is pierced, by the rod R, by screwing the cartridge 13 relatively to the holder 4, the holder 4 being secured by a screw 14 to a part 7 carrying the rod R. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the cap 21 is replaced by a piston 23 which permits filling of the cartridge 13. The cartridge 13 may be refilled by a container Fig. 8, (not shown), provided with a conical cap 24b carrying a guide tube 25, similar to the holder 4, and a piercing rod. When the container is inverted with a cartridge inserted in the guide tube, ink may be sucked into the cartridge 13 by operation of the cap 21 or piston 23.
