Abstract

1,155,445. Ball-point pens. DAINIHON BUNGU K.K. 18 Sept., 1967 [31 March, 1967], No. 42383/67. Heading B6P. A ball-point pen for water-soluble ink has an outer barrel 1 serving directly as an ink reservoir. A ball holder 7 tightly fitted into the front end of the barrel has a wick 8 for feeding ink to the ball 7a. An inner cylindrical member 5, closed at its front end 4 except for an air vent 6, is fitted by a stopper 3 into the rear of the barrel 1. The rear of the barrel 1 is closed with a cap 12 having an air vent 11, and a gas-permeable, liquid absorbing plug 9. An ink-flow restricting device is fitted into the cylinder 5 and may take the form of gas-permeable plug 10 of a material such as a silicone resin, or a thin tube (13, Fig. 3). The barrel is filled with a syringe through the front end (the ball holder 7 being removed). Alternatively, the barrel 1 may be a disposable cartridge which is threaded on to a holding barrel (Fig. 4).
