Abstract

986,411. Reservoir pens. PARKER PEN CO. Jan. 30, 1962 [Feb. 6, 1961], No. 3489/62 Heading B6P. A filler device 30 for use with a reservoir such as that described in Specification 814,765 comprises a tubular casing 31, a forward absorbent element 33 in the casing and a second absorbent element 32 spaced rearwards of the first element and carrying ink concentrate. A filler valve 20 as described in Specification 814,765 is formed of high capillarity material e.g., felt, sponge, or mesh exposed through openings 19. In operation, the rear open section, not shown, is removed and the rear end of housing 17 is inserted in the device 30 in the manner shown in Fig. 3. The device 30 and pen are then inserted in water to just above the capillary filler element. The water rises and forms ink with the concentrate which then flows through the valve 20 into the capillary filler element. After filling, the device 30 is removed from the pen. A modified filler device is described with reference to Fig. 7 (not shown), and has a skirt 42 surrounding a main body 41 which is made of thin material so as to provide flexibility to accommodate pens of varying diameter. The filler may be used with collapsible sac or pistonfilled pens.
