Abstract

Pen (10) comprises a holder (12) with an ink reservoir (14) inside it. A nib (16) is fitted to the holder and incorporates a capillary ink feed unit (18) which extends to a tampon (20) contained in the reservoir. At the top end of the holder is an ink cartridge (22) and a cap (24). Inside the holder is an injection tube (26) containing a channel (28), and in the reservoir (14), alongside the tampon (20), is the main ventilation channel (30) into which issues a cross ventilation channel (32) in the holder (12). The capillary ink feed unit (18) is preferably a fibrous structure inside a leakproof casing (34) so that its ink inlet (36) is some distance from the tampon lower end. In the lower end of the reservoir (14) is a buffer compartment (38) for free ink not restricted by the tampon. Ink can thus be received at the tip (40) in such quantity that droplets are available for efficient flow.
