In a method for cleaning the nib or nib units of writing or drawing instruments with a cleaning liquid the nib 5 or nib unit 4 is removed from the body of the instrument and from the ink container housed therein or just from the body of the instrument (in the case of "funnel pens") and fitted into connecting means 3 and/ or 6 on a spraying head 2 of a spraying device, e.g. pressurized spray bottle 1, and then cleaning liquid is forced from the spraying device in the form of a foam through the essential inner functional parts of the nib or nib unit thereby leaving the foam at least at the writing point where it may be taken up by suitable means e.g. a rag or absorbent paper. The method may be used to clean the nib units of Indian ink writing instruments containing a capilliary writing nibs, and capilliary funnel pen nib units, The spray opening which is not in use may be sealed in an airtight manner with plug 7.
