Abstract

628,350. Reservoir marking instruments. SPEEDRY PRODUCTS, Inc. July 23, 1947, No. 19760. Convention date, Feb. 4, 1944. [Class 146 (iii)] A fountain pen comprises a barrel 10 forming an ink reservoir, absorbent material 24 filling most of the space within the barrel but leaving an air space 25 within it, and a nib 22 of absorbent material carried in a nib holder 18 at one end of the barrel 10 and having its inner end projecting into contact with the absorbent filling 24. A glass lining 12 is provided for the reservoir and to avoid breakage, a cushion disc 13 is placed between the end of the barrel and the lining. The absorbent filling 24 and nib 22 are made of felt and a washer 20, also of felt, is placed between the glass lining 12 and the nib holder 18, which screws into the barrel 10, the inner end of the nib 22 being cut at an angle and squeezed against the inside of the washer 20 and in contact with the filling 24. The air space 25 extends longitudinally of the filling 24 and is closed at the upper end by the washer 20. The cap 26 is provided with a felt member 30 having a bore 32 fitting the nib holder 18, but so that the felt is not in contact with the nib 22, excess ink only being absorbed thereby.
