Abstract
734,709. Reservoir pens. PARKER PEN CO. Feb. 27, 1953, No. 5572/53. Class 146(3). A reservoir pen has a barrel formed with an inclined opening at its forward end through which a nib projects, a capillary filler-and-reservoir element in the barrel having a reservoir section with capillary ink storage spaces and a feed section providing capillary ink feed passages connecting the ink storage spaces in the reservoir section with the nib, and a rigid casing removably disposed in the barrel, enclosing and forming a unit with the filler-andreservoir element and having a reduced forward portion carrying the nib, and is characterized in that interlocking means is provided for securing the casing against rotation with respect to the barrel and removable means is provided for securing the nib against rotational and longitudinal movement with respect to the barrel. As shown, a reservoir-and-filler element 66 is of the construction described in Specifications 634,735 and 646,726, and comprises a sheet of material, such as plastic or silver, rolled into spiral form, the convolutions being spaced apart to provide an ink storage space. The element 66 is enclosed in a casing 64 having a plug 72 with an aperture 76 which communicates with a vent tube 42, the plug 72 being pressed forwards by an ink sealing ring 80 and ring seat 82 carried by a rear barrel portion 16 screwed to the front portion 14. The casing 64 is secured against rotation in the barrel portion 14 by projections 90 engaging notches 62 in the barrel. The projections 90 form openings 92 communicating with the ink storage spaces in the element 66, the openings 92 also communicating with an annular passage 44. The passage 94 supplies ink to a nib 110 through the lower part of a bore 56 and a space 131. The nib 110 fits within the reduced front end portion 102 of the casing which houses a feed portion 1, 26, while a nib sheath 70 fits around the portion 102 to secure the nib in position. The nib has a tubular body 106; a slit 112, and a hole 114. The sheath 70 has a front cover 128 provided with slots 138 for the passage of ink.
