Abstract

225,512. Wahl Co., (Assignees of Wahl, J. C.). Nov. 26, 1923, [Convention date]. Pencil holders. - Relates to the reserve lead or refill chamber of mechanical pencils of the kind wherein the chamber is within a portion of the lead feeding mechanism, and consists in means to enable leads which are of greater length than the outlet aperture to be withdrawn from or inserted into the chamber by varying the length of the chamber. In the example shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the refill chamber is at the end of a tubular portion 8 carrying the screw - threaded follower of the screw-propelling mechanism. The upper end 11 of the tube is externally threaded to receive a cap member 12 containing an eraser which rests upon a disc 14 and closes the upper end of the refill chamber. The outlet aperture 10 of the refill chamber is conical, with its bottom and wider end extending to a short distance from the bottom disc 13 of the chamber. To withdraw a lead the cap 12 is unscrewed about four turns as shown in Fig. 4 until the end of the lead drops out of the aperture. Specification 222,450 is referred to.
