M. swoPE INK PENGIL Filed Feb. 16; 1925 Patented Aug. 10, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
MAEIE SWOPE, OF BELLEFONTE, PENNSYLVANIA.
INK PENGIL.
Application filed February 16, 1925. Serial No. 9,588.
This invention relates to fountain or ink pencils.
The object of the invention is to provide a pencil of this character Which presents the 5 appearance of an ever ready pencil and Which is equipped with a Wire Writing point to which ink is fed Whereby the Inarks made by the point are in ink.
Another object is to provide a pencil of 10 this character Which is extremelv simple in construction and cheap to manufacture and Which may be readily taken apart for cleaningz` or repairs.
lVith the forezoing and other objects in 15 view which Will appear as the description proceeds. the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter descrhed and claim'ed. it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made Within the scope of what is claim'ed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanving drawingst- Figurefll represents a side elevation of a pencil eonstrncted in accordance With this invention; and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof. n the embodiment illustrated 1 denotes the barrel or body portion 'of the pencil Which may be constructed of anv snitahle material and has a. comparatively small bore 2 extendinn' throughout the length thereof. A Cap-like section 3 is removably mounted on the rear end of the body 1 and has an eraser 4 at one end providing a chanber 5 for the housing of a finger grip 7 carried by a plunxer rod 6, Which reciprocates in the bore 2. This plunger rod 6 has a plnner 8 at its front end mounted fluidtirht in a sleeve 9 which is threaded on the front end of the body 1 and Which forms an ink-reservoir 15. A tapered Section 10 is threaded in the outer end of the sleeve 9 and has a small bore 11 extendingr longitudinally therethrough in Which is mounted a wire 12 Which projects at the front heyond said ser'tion and forms What may be termed the Writing point 14. This Wire 12 has its inner end extended into the inkreservoir 15 and is shown secured to one side wall of sleeve 9 as indicated at 13. so that the inner end of the Wire Will act as a stop for the plngrer and at the same time. dnc to thel connection between the Wire and sleeve 9, resiliency Will be added to the feed wire to facilitate the floW of ink through the hore 11.
From the above description it Will be obvious that this improved pencil is constructed of four sections the body Section 1, the eap section 3, the Writing section Which includes sleeve 9 and the tapered extension 10. The plunger 8 carried by the rod G constitntes the filler for the ink reserroir 15 and when it is desired to fill said reservoir the top Section 3 is removed and the plunger first moved forvvardlv and then drawn rear- Wardlv Whereby ink is sucked in through the bore 11 into the reservoir 15 and from which it will flow slowlv throughthe bore 11 and be fed to the writing point 14. t is nndcrstood that the inlr is fed by capillary attraction along this wire 12 and the inner end of the Wire as shown at 16 is bowed to form a resilient connection of the Wire With the sleeve 9.
I claim:--
In an ink penoil. an elonzated body. portion having a restricted hore extendiner therethrough. a rod extended through the bore and in close proximity to the Wall thereof to guide the rod. a removable sleeve providing an ink barrel on one end of the body portion, a plunger on one end of the rod and operatingr in the sleeve to draw flnid into the sleeve. said plnnger engzagin` the wall of the sleeve. a tapered Section having a bore. removably secured at one endof the sleeve a feed Wire extending through the bore and tapered Section and h aving one end secured to the sleeve. to cause flnid to be fed to the free end of the Wire. and a finger strip on the opposite end of the rod for operating the rod.
n testimonv that I claim the foregoinz as my own, I have hereto aflixed m v signature.
Mania sworn.
