Abstract

20,065. Munro, A. Sept. 9. P e n s, reservoir. A self-filling reservoir pen consists of a barrel 8, Fig. 3, closed by a rubber bulb 16, and a feedtube 4 slidably mounted in a chambered rubber washer 10. The feed-tube is perforated at 14, 15 and is stopped up at the point 13. Fig. 3 shows the tube in the writing position; if the tube is pulled forward by the finger-piece 9 so that the hole 14 is just within the washer 10, the ink is cut off from the nib ; if both holes 14, 15 are within the washer, the pen can he filled by dipping the point 7 of the feed-tube in ink and repeatedly compressing the bulb 16, the ink being sucked up the feed-tube and trapped in the lower part of the reservoir. In a modification, the feed-tube does not slide in the washer but is provided with capillary slits or openings just above the washer, through which the ink feeds. A pen having an ordinary grooved feed-plug 32, Fig. 7, to which is attached a tube 24, may be similarly filled. To adapt a stylographic pen for use with the above filling-means, the needle 29, Fig. 5, is mounted in a tube 26 which is cut away at 28 to receive the feed-tube 4, and is attached to a plate 27 of pen-nib shape. To provide temporary accommodation for any excess ink and to feed the same to the nib, the nib holder 1 is provided with a tongue 2 reaching to near the end of the feed-tube. According to the Provisional Specification, a pen in which the feed-tube affords the only exit from the reservoir may be rendered ink-tight for the pocket by slipping a small rubber bag over the lower end of the tube
