An idler c connecting driving and driven discs A, B, which partially overlap, is carried on a spindle D supported at one end in a ring E. As the power transmitted varies, the spindle D moves angularly under the control of spring &c. G. As long as the roller C is oblique, it will be slid along its shaft by the action of the discs, so varying the speed. In a modification, discs coaxially arranged are connected by a pair of idlers on a movable spindle.
