Abstract
476,362. Variable - speed gearing. VINCENZONI, A. April 1, 1937, No. 9329. Convention date, April 1, 1936. [Class 80 (ii)] A gear device which varies in ratio continuously and automatically in accordance with the load comprises driving and driven discs 1, 9, Fig. 1, which are connected by drag-links 7 and one-way grips 3 so that a continuous drive is transmitted from one to the other with a change in ratio which rises more and more above one-to-one as the distance between the axes of the discs increases. These discs are rigid with parallel shafts 11, 9<1>, Fig. 2, the latter being adapted to slide towards and from a position of alignment with the former. An effect of the load is to pull the shaft 91 downwards towards the position of alignment and by resisting this pull by a spring 14 the device becomes torque-responsive. A preferred form of one-way grip comprises a pair of balls 3, Fig. 5, thrust apart into gripping engagement with flanges 2 on the periphery of the disc 1 when the drag-link 7 corresponding is in tension.
