Abstract
192,891. Brake, T. V. Jan, 11, 1922. Variable-speed gearing comprises a governor a, Fig. 1, driven by the driven shaft c of the gearing and serving to shift a gear h, Fig. 2, so as to change the speed. The gear h slides on a feather on a driving-shaft i and is adapted to be meshed alternatively with gears q, j upon countershafts p, m, geared to a stepped wheel l fast on the shaft c. The gears q, j are ratchet mounted to facilitate speed changing. The gear h may also slide into clutch engagement with the wheel l for direct driving. Reversed driving is provided for by a manually-operated gear k and a secondary countershaft.
