Upon a driving-shaft a are mounted loose gears f, e with clutch faces, the latter being the driven element of the gearing. These mesh with gears i, h fast on the countershaft g. Between the gears f, e there is splined a pair of connected gears b, c with clutch ends. The gears b, c are constantly in mesh with gears j, k loose on the shaft g and adapted to be clutched thereto alternatively by a splined double-ended clutch sleeve l.
