Abstract
341,374. Variable-speed gearing. SOC. ANON., DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS HOTCHKISS ET CIE, 6, Route de Gonesse, St. Denis, Seine, France. May 16, 1930, No. 15109. Convention date, April 18. Addition to 333,491, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.]. [Class 80 (ii).] Variable-speed gearing yielding four speeds comprises aligned driving and driven shafts 3, 6, a parallel countershaft 20 and a double gear element 15 supported upon a fixed eccentric drum 12 supported at both ends. The element 15, which does not slide as in the main patent, has teeth 17 constantly meshing with internal teeth 18 on a wheel 19 fast on the driven shaft 6. Upon shaft 20 constantly driven from shaft 3 through pair 4, 21 are coupled splined sliding gears 23, 25. A combined pinion and clutch 9 is loose on shaft 6 and splined at 4a to shaft 3. When element 9 is slid to the left, clutch teeth 10 engage teeth 8 on the driven shaft, effecting a direct drive. When element 9 is slid to the right, pinion 9a meshes with internal teeth 16 on element 15, which thus drives wheel 19 at third speed. Second and lowest speeds are effected by bringing gear 23 into mesh with external teeth 24 on element 15, and by bringing gear 25 into mesh with wheel 19, respectively. Reversal is effected by a double idler connecting gears 23, 19, and the control of element 9, of the countershaft gears, and of the reversing-gear is similar to that of the main patent.
