341,379. Variable-speed gearing. MAYBACH-MOTORENBAU GES., Friedrichshafen-on-Bodensee, Germany. June 13, 1930, No. 18165. Convention date, June 15, 1929. Addition to 298,186, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.]. [Class 80 (ii).] Variable-speed gearing comprises the twospeed gear of the parent Specification combined with a second speed gear so that the gear pairs of the former are used alternatively as the e constant-mesh gears for driving the countershaft of the latter. The pairs of the two-speed gear are 2, 11 and 6, 12 and the double-ended claw clutch 3 between them on driving-shaft 1 has chamfered ends to allow ratcheting before engagement. The gears 11, 12 are fast on the countershaft 10 of the second or three-speed gear which has a clutch 14 for direct drive and sliding gears 15, 16 on driven shaft 5 for lower speeds. For each of the two gear positions of clutch 3, the second gearing yields three speeds.
