Abstract
630,899. Variable-speed gearing. SOC. POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES BREVETS, M. G. D. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2450. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1946. [Class 80 (ii)] In a change speed gear a driving shaft 1 has fast pinions 2, 3 meshing constantly with pinions 2a, 3a which are free to rotate but have clutch plates 2b, 3b with which a sliding clutch plate 4 alternatively engages, thereby rotating a sleeve 5 at two different speeds. Sleeve 5 has a pinion 6 engaging a pinion 7 on a countershaft to which are secured pinions 8, 9. The latter are in constant mesh with loose pinions 8a, 9a. The driven shaft 10, by means of an axially slidable clutch 11 may be selectively clutched to the sleeve 5 or to the pinions 8a, 9a, thereby producing six speeds. A pinion 14, fast on an extension 13 of the shaft 10 may, through a pinion not, shown, drive through the intermediary of a cardan shaft 15 another cardan shaft in the opposite direction of rotation to that of the shaft 10.
