Abstract

254,956. Lescarts, F. Nov. 19, 1925. Variable-speed gearing comprises a friction clutch C thrown into action intermittently by the differential motion of driving and driven shafts 1, 2 in such a manner as to produce automatic variation. The clutch may comprise plates 7, 8 keyed respectively upon a boss 6 fast on the shaft 1 and inside a drum 3 fast on the shaft 2. The intermittent engagement of the clutch is effected by a cam 16 carried by planetary or differential pinions 12 meshing with sun gears 13 upon the driving and driven shafts. The cam 16, which turns at a speed proportional to the lost revolutions stubs between a clutch presser plate 10 and an abutment ring 18 which can be released to disconnect the drive.
