[Class 80 (ii)] A single gear c and compound gear d, e, on a driving shaft a mesh with a compound gear h, i, and single gear g on a driven shaft b and are arranged as shown in Fig. 1 freely mounted on the shafts. Clutch members f, j, splined on the shafts a, b, respectively, may be moved to engage the gears c, d and i, g, respectively to give four forward speeds. For reversing a third shaft k has a compound gear m, n, the gear portion n meshing with i. A gear o splined to the driving shaft a may move to mesh gear portion m, and operation of the clutch member j will give two reverse speeds. In a modification, clutch f is omitted and gear c is splined to the shaft a and has dogs engageable with dogs on gear d. The compound gear m, n is omitted and a wide gear-wheel on the third shaft k always meshing the gear c may be moved to engage the gear h for reverse speeds.
