Abstract

959,582. Reversing gearing. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Nov. 22, 1961 [Nov. 29, 1960], No. 41063/60. Heading F2D. [Also in Divisions B7 and F1] The engines 37, 38, 45, 46, of a locomotive, are arranged to drive the input shafts 21, 22 of a gear-box 20 in opposite directions, gears 23, 24 on the shafts being in constant mesh with each other and with forward and reverse gears 25, 26, which are respectively clutched to the output shaft 11 by a dog sleeve 30 having external dog teeth 31 engaging internal splines on the gears 25, 26. Each pair of engines 37, 38 and 45, 46 is connected through a differential gear 34, 41 as described in Specification 881,313 which permits adjustment of the gear ratio. Each output shaft 11 is connected to a pair of axles 16.
