Abstract

692,511. Variable speed gear. SUBERKRUB, F. Dec. 21, 1950, No. 31185/50. Class 80 (ii), A variable speed and reversing gear comprises driving and driven toothed wheels on parallel shafts, two countershafts each mounting one fixed and two rotatable wheels, and clutch means for connecting the rotatable wheels to their shafts, the fixed wheels on each shaft meshing with the driven wheel, one rotatable wheel on each shaft meshing with the driving wheel and the other rotatable wheel meshing with the corresponding wheel on the other shaft. As shown a driving shaft 1 and a driven shaft 11 are connected by countershafts 5, 6, 13. Pinions 9, 10, 15 engage a wheel 12 on the shaft 11 and are fast with their respective countershafts. Loosely mounted on, but clutchable by clutches A, B, C to, the countershafts are pinions 4, 3, 14 engaging a wheel 2 on the shaft 1. The pinions 9, 10, 15 and 4, 3, 14 being of different diameter ratios, three speeds are available. A pinion 7 integral with pinion 3 engages a pinion 8 rotatable on, but clutchable (by clutch D) to, the shaft 6 to provide a reverse gear. The clutches are preferably laminar disc clutches.
