Abstract

367,672. Multiple reversing gear assemblage. ZAHNRADFABRIK AKT.- GES., Friedrichshafen - on - Bodensee, Germany. June 6, 1931, No. 16562. Convention date, June 6, 1930. [Class 80 (ii).] An assemblage of similar reversing gears 2 are adapted to drive a number of parallel shafts 1 severally in either direction at will from a motor 6. The shafts 1 may operate the curtains and scenes on the stage of a theatre. The driving shafts 4 of the gear units are connected end to end in line by couplings 5 to form a single shaft geared to the motor 6. A preferred construction of unit comprises a bevel toothed wheel 10 fast on the end of the shaft 1 meshing with wheels 11, 11<1>, loose on the shaft 4. A double-ended cone clutch member 12 splined on the shaft 4 can be slid by a lever 15 to engage a clutch surface on either of the wheels 11, 11<1> so as to cause that wheel to drive the shaft 1. Instead of the friction clutch elements, dog clutch elements might be used, and instead of the toothed gearing, friction gearing.
