[Class 79 (ii).] The worm shaft g, which drives the road wheels, forms one of the change-speed gear shafts and can be driven from the coaxial clutch shaft a either directly or through lay shafts i, s. In the arrangement shown, which is particularly suitable for front wheel drive, the worm is situated between two trains of the variable gear and thus space is economized. The lay shaft i is used for first and second speeds and reverse, and the lay shaft s for an overspeed through gear-wheels c, t and r, q.
