Abstract
249,556. Lindhardt, H. S. March 20, 1925, [Convention date]. Change-speed and reversing gearing; transmission gear between separate axles. - A locomotive is driven by an internal-combustion engine through an ordinary change-speed and reversing gear-box and a separate reversing gearbox 14 so that the same speeds can be obtained in both directions, the final shaft 9 of the gear driving one axle 4 directly and the other axle 3 through a universally-jointed shaft 10 enclosed in a tubular casing 12. The reversing gear comprises gear wheels 16, 13 which may be engaged either by a gear wheel 18 or by inter-meshing pinions 19, 20 according to the position of a sliding carrier 17 on which the gear wheels 18, 19, 20 are mounted. The carrier 17 is controlled by a hand-lever 23. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the ordinary gearbox 24 provided with two forward speeds, a reverse, and a brake, controlled by levers 25, 26, 27 which are separately connected by links 28 to hand-levers 31. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
