Abstract

737,514. Vehicle driving gear. GORDON, A. R. W. Oct. 12, 1953 [June 15, 1953], No. 16350/53. Class 79(2). A trailer carries a change speed gear 9 connectible to a tractor power take-off shaft and controllable by the tractor driver through a lever 14, the output shaft of the gear 9 being connected to a propeller shaft 7 housed in an extension 8 of a differential gear casing 6 to drive the trailer wheels 5. In the embodiment shown the change-speed gear 9 mounted on the trailer frame 3 has its input shaft 10 connected by a universal joint 11 to a transmission shaft 12 adapted to be connected to the tractor power take-off shaft, and the frame 3 is connected to the tractor at 4. An auxiliary gear box with reduction and reversing gears may be fitted in front of the change speed gear. According to the Provisional Specification the auxiliary gear box may be fitted with a spring- loaded slipping olutch. Specification 650,335 is referred to.
