Abstract

770,922. Motor vehicles. SELENE SOC. SR.L. Dec. 13, 1954 [Dec. 12, 1953 ; March 25, 1954], No. 36067/54. Classes 79(2) and 79(4). Means to convert to four wheel drive a rear driven tractor having front and rear portions 1 and 2 detachably connected together by flanges 1a and 2a, comprises a frame 6 which incorporates a projecting box 19 and is inserted between the flanges. The box 19 mounts a gear train and an output shaft 13 which can be engaged to take drive from the output shaft of the change speed gear mounted in the front portion 1 of the tractor, the output shaft 13 being connected via a torque limiting clutch to drive a front wheel shaft provided with a differential 14. The gear train comprises gears 8 and 9 driven from a gear 7 on the rear drive shaft 5, the gear 9 being splined on the output shaft 13 so as to be clutched in or out of the train under the control of a two position lever 22. A front axle 15 is pivoted to the tractor about a longitudinal axis and carries the differential 14 which is driven from the output shaft 13 by means of a telescopic cardan shaft 13a containing a torque limiting clutch 25.
