Abstract

896,542. Vehicle driving gear. DAIMLER CO. Ltd. Oct. 24, 1960 [Nov. 5, 1959; Sept. 17. 1960], Nos. 37535/59 and 32059/60. Classes 79(2) and 79(3). A vehicle, e.g. a motor omnibus, has a transversely disposed engine mounted upon a subframe 4 of a chassis frame 1, 2 (as shown) at the rear of the vehicle, the power unit including a clutch of fluid coupling 8, flexible coupling 9, change speed gear box 11 and radiator 12, the gear box being connected to the coupling 9 by an input shaft 13 concentrically disposed within an output shaft 15. The output shaft 15 is connected via bevel gears 15, 16, propeller shaft 17, 18, 19 and bevels 22, 23 with the rear axle differential gear from which extend shafts 24 and 25 driving the rear wheels 6 through gears 26, 27 and shafts 28. In a modification, Fig. 3, which enables the gear box 11 to be disposed nearer the engine, the output shaft 13 is fast with a gear 30 meshing with a gear 31 fast with a bevel 33 which is mounted upon the shaft 17.
