Abstract
453,912. Motor vehicles. DAIMLER - BENZ AKT. - GES., Unterturkheim, Stuttgart, Germany. March 15, 1935, No. 9294/36. Convention date, March 15, 1934. Divided out of 453,838. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iv)] Comprises a vehicle with two axles d<1>, d<2> driven from a differential gear d<12>; the driving shaft x to one of the axles passing through a hollow change-speed gear shaft m which drives the differential gear, characterized by the feature that the engine (not shown), forms a single block with the casing e enclosing the change-speed gear and differential gear, the engine being close to but on one side of the axle d<2> and the change-speed gear and differential gear on the other side. In the construction shown the change-speed gear comprises the engine or clutch shaft h, a coaxial shaft i, and two hollow shafts l, m mounted on the shaft x. The gear wheels n, o are constant mesh wheels and the gear wheels p, q are slidable. The differential gear d<12> distributes the power unequally between the axles d<1>, d<2>, as described in Specification 453,838, and may be locked by a clutch y. The road wheels are independently-sprung and are driven through separate differential gears at d<1>, d<2>, the front differential being driven through a shaft wand universal joints z<1>, z<2>, z<3>. The engine and gear block e and a tubular member f constitute a central chassis frame member, the engine being at the rear.
