Abstract
736,353. Motor-vehicle driving-gear. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Dec. 31, 1952 [Dec. 31, 1951], No. 33066/52. Classes 79(2) and 79(3). In a motor vehicle having its rear wheels driven from a forwardly disposed engine 1 through a cardan shaft 2, a clutch 3, a change speed gearing and differential gearing 5, the clutch 3 is formed as a unit with the gearing 4, 5, the driven shaft 4<SP>11</SP> of the gearing 4 being disposed transversely and directly in front of the gearing 5. In the preferred embodiment the shaft 2 is connected to the clutch through worm gearing 10,11. The shaft 4 is arranged within the driving shaft 4<SP>1</SP> of the gearing 4, and the shaft 411 is connected to the gearing 5 by gears 12, the gearing 5 driving the rear wheels through shafts 6. The axis of the engine 1 is offset relatively to the shaft 2 both in plan and side elevation. The invention is applied to a vehicle having three seats 8 arranged transversely, the shaft 2 being arranged on one side of the middle seat and the engine exhaust pipe 9 on the other side. In other embodiments, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the cardan shaft drives the clutch through bevel gearing, the clutch being coaxial with the transverse change speed. gearing or with the cardan shaft and driving the transverse change speed gearing through bevel gearing.
